Fabia vRS Skoda dealer or Carfile ?

Featured Replies

Hi, as said in a previous post i am very interested in new Fabia vRS the deal from Skoda dealer is -

Price OTR is £17, 065 with £11,000 px for my 2008 Focus ST

Price from Carfile in Staffordshire for the exact same car with the same options is £15,345 OTR with £10,200 px for my car, even with lower px it works out £920 cheaper.

Car will come from a Skoda dealer with all the benifits you would get if you bought it straight form the dealer, you can get it serviced at any dealer and warrenty claims can be done at any dealer.

How can thay do it cheaper than the dealer, is it OK to buy from non-main dealers. £920 sounds good in my pocket, what do you think ?

Before i finally decide i wil pay one last visit to my Skoda dealer ( Preston ) who treated me very very well to see if they can match or how much closer they can get to that price.

Tony.

Are you flexible on colour choice?

I dont see why they wouldn't match Carfile, it's not the lowest internet price. There is currently a site offering the base vrs hatch for £13895 before options.

Which site?

Thanks

Hi Tony, I had a similar dilemma whilst looking for a similar spec car.

My local dealers whilst nice helpful people were offering silly money for my 2007 mk1 Fab. Others have commented on Briskoda about low px offers on vat free cars but it aint cricket when they do this to us VAT payers. I sold it privately within a week for £2k more than their best offer, and I could have sold it many times over.

I got quotes from brokers who offered a £2k discount in my spec. As you say many supply through dealers anyway so there should not be an issue. I was ready to order it. However I then rang dozens of Skoda dealers around the country asking if they would be interested in competing with a broker. Some said they wouldn’t, some said they couldn’t. One admitted they used to be a supplying dealer for a well known broker but weren’t any more. Eventually I found a dealer who was prepared to work for an order, he offered me £1500 off the car and low rate finance for my business.

Doing things this way left me without a car for a while (perhaps I should have hung on to my old car a bit longer), and meant a 120 mile trip to pick up the new VRS but it saved me £3500 from the first deal offered!

Is that price for a 'stock' car or a factory order? There is no reason anybody needs to pay list price for the fabia vRS. If you are ready to order then spend half an hour on the phone ringing around as many dealers as you can asking for their "lowest non-negotiable price" ,should sort you a decent discount...

My local dealer also tried to sell me the car at list price, walked away and a few phonecalls later was able to secure a deal from a dealer not too far away for £1500 less

p.s. I also used to have a Focus ST until a couple of months ago, beautiful car. Was a silver '56' plate ST-2. Will miss it.... :'(

Makes my deal look rather raw in comparison!

I rang quite a few dealers in the country to get what I wanted - a Fabia vRS in white with a black roof and wheels. I specified just about everything excluding sat-nav and heated seats but it ended up being a factory order for numerous reasons.

Best I could do in the end was £1000 discount but I also got top whack for my trade in - my wife's old Clio. That value was worth about £250 more than the best offer I'd had elsewhere and I'd had 3 quotes for the part-ex from various dealers.

No dealers I rang were particularly interested in haggling too much, despite telling them I wanted their best quote for a deal right now. Quite surprising really considering the state of the new car market at the moment.

I found in the past that while these internet companies promise the earth, it's another story getting hold of the car you want at the price they advertise. I did manage to get a great deal for my brother's car using drivethedeal.com some years ago but it was still several hundred pounds off the company's claim.

Slightly different for me as I tried to buy a used one. Rang and emailed round all the dealers in the South West and eventually found a dealer willing to sell me there demonstrator which was well specced up. I was flexible for colour really and options which helped. As others have said, best to look round and haggle.

I to found online car brokers a bit dissapointing considering what they claimed.

I was in a very similar situation a couple of months ago when i ordered (thought about going internet for pricing), but i felt that i wanted to support my Skoda Retailer as i wanted all the support i could get when servicing etc and not walk back in with my tail between my legs after taking up there time and using them for a test drive when i need them next. Buy from your local dealer.

Guess us girls think different

I think you are being a little unkind to dealers here. They are more professional than this.

I have test-driven a dozen-ish cars from a local Skoda dealer over several years. They know me well and have tried to sell me loads of cars. They have yet to be successful as I believe in negotiation, and they have never got to my figures, when other out-of-town Skoda dealers have got there.

These local guys probably think "oh no him again" when I walk in but they always greet me with a smile, and let me drive anything I ask.

I have bought elsewhere. However I service locally with them with impeccable service, and when my previous Fab needed repairs at 35months old and near the end of its warranty, these local guys were very helpful. They even went over it with a fine-tooth comb to see if it needed any other work before the warranty ran out.
