Scout tyres - no all season/winters in stock anywhere...

Featured Replies

I'd naturally like to sort some all season tyres for the scout. I don't want to go down the route of new wheels (spent a long time weighing up the pros and cons) so I'm looking for some 225/50/17 W tyres.

The two brands that I'd prefer to get are Vredestein Quatrac 3 or Nokian WRG2.

Having searched for a good while and having phoned around local tyre dealers I can't find anything suitable anywhere.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

cheers

I don't think Quatracs are made in 225/50/17 size. Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons would be your best bet in odd measurements - good tyre, scores higher than Quatrac in some tests. Size looks slightly odd - afaik, other Octy's riding on 17's have 225/45/17 profile - anyone close enough to their Octy to confirm?

no stock at either website

That's not the factory size for the scout.

All other octavias with 17" wheels run with 225/45/17. However the scout has the higher profile 225/50/17 in an effort to give more 'off-road' credentials.

I suppose that 225/45/17 would be an option if only to get some all seasons on the car.

Hi all,

The Scout has two approved sizes, 225/50R17 as supplied and 205/55R16 as an alternative.

A good option is to get a set of steel wheels with winter tyres in the latter size - they are much cheaper. The only downside is the look which you can see at:

http://new.skoda-auto.com/dza/model/octavia/scoutexperience/gallery/Pages/ExperienceGallery.aspx?pageIndex=4

One reason for the lack of winter tyres in the 50 profile might be the speed rating - most are lower than the OEM W rated tyres - some are H or T - hence the winter tyre speed warning on Maxidot.

Cheers,

Les.

Hi,try Dingwall tyres on 01349863760 usually have agood stock of Gislaved and others

Are you looking for all season tyres, (which you would use all year round), or cold weather tyres, (which you will only use during the colder weather)?

Looking on mytyres website, there are 9 all season tyres in your specified size, and 55 cold weather tyres in that size.

Don't think I was clear in my original post.

Ideally looking for 225/50/17W, so that I can run them as 'normal' tyres. mytyres has none of these. I know the limitations and lack of specificity of these tyres but asI get through a set a year I was hoping I could put new ones on this time of year and them run them out for the rest of the year.

As mentioned in my previous post - Quatrac 3 are not manufactured in that size. 225/45/17 up to V is the closest they do. Nokian WRG2 do 225/50/17 XL and Run Flats, but up to V rating. It's a weird size, so, something has to give - bar is set high - all season tyres with index 25% higher than maximum theoretical speed of the Octavia range. 149mph V speed index surely is enough for Scout?

Hi,

could try these My link did consider them for the Yeti but I've recently sold her.

Have you tried etyres or blackcircles.com?

I am looking at those as well. I put off buying a full set until next month because a) still had good tread on the back tyres and B) the weather hasn't been too bad so far.

With regard to B) we currently have 8inches of snow and only the maiin roads are clear. So much for my reasoning!

Anyone else bought these Nokian Entyres and can give some feedback?

Not sure how I got that emoticon but quite appropriate really.
