Buying a VRS, Is this a good price?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! I haven't being on here for a while but i've been busy looking for a Octavia VRS and I think i've found myself a really good example! The one that i'm going to look at in a couple of days time is red. It has 39k miles on the clock, 1 previous owner, Full Service & History 57 plate and the price is £8,500 :) I've got a Honda Civic CTDI which is a 52 plate with 84k miles to trade in and the salesman told me he might give me 2k for it. It all sounds very good so far but I need some opinions from you guys on something else. I've been offered to buy this car and pay for it for 5 years at 12.1% APR fixed rate, it has been HPI checked and cleared + no accidents! :) I'm very excited to test drive the car as i've never driven a Skoda before! The question is, does this deal sound very good? I can't find any VRS for sale within 100 miles from me anywhere and all the once that are for sale are high milers. Any thoughts on this?

Depending on extra goodies - jumbo box, maxidot, xenons, 18" zeniths etc that is a very good price and red seems to be quite a rare colour surprisingly.

I say go for it!

yep that seems a very good price - where is it ?!!!

most 5 plates are going for 10k !

Price seems ok (depending on extras as Pagey says) but this "12.1% APR fixed rate" doesn't.

12.1% apr ?????

dont even think about it.

i have just borrowed £15000 for 7.7% through sainsburys finance

shop around a bit first

Petrol or diesel? I note your Civic is diesel, so I'm guessing diesel...

The finance rate is terrible, I got finance at 5.8% APR from VW Finance last month.

I'm not going to tell you!!! I'm going tommorrow to look and hopefully buy it.. I agree with a lot of the posts on here about the 12.1% APR. I will look at taking out a loan for a lot lower rate such as 6 or 7%.

That is really cheap for a 57 plate, particularly from a dealer - Whoever he got it from was either robbed or knew something!!

I'd say it's easily £1000 under value, which makes me wonder why.. It may be worth checking for the ESP issues that are affecting some octys of that age/mileage - There's more info here http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/153853-honest-johns-take-on-esp-problems/ . I'd certainly get a proper independent inspection, if that comes out good, you've found yourself a bargain..

I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm pi55ing on your fire, but I'm always wary when something looks too good. As for the finance, don't touch it, you should easily get £6500 for at least 5% less than that - just go to a comparison site or have a look at MoneySavingExpert and use the links on there.

Thanks for the good words. Just to let people know it's not a main dealer it's an Independent Dealer who has been arround for 35 years. The salesman has done a full check on the car and it has no problems at all and has never being in an accident. I will check the number plate with DVLA myself to verify this. I also would get 1 years warranty thrown in the deal too. As for extras with the car, I shall try my best to get some. Actually as i'm here anyway, would a dealer give me the value of my car in cash or only as a deposit? I'd rather have cash to use on something else. He might give me £2000 in exchange for my Honda.

Low mileage, what extras has it got? And where in Kent are you?

Tbh I couldn't tell you :p lol

I think it's fairly midrange for extras:

Climate control, 6-cd changer...not really sure what else

What extras can this car come with? Just saw it for the low price, took a test drive, liked it and put the deposit down

It was the cheapest in most of the country for it's year and mileage

I bought it from the dealer in Canterbury

I had my eye on that one was going to see it on wednesday, but when i looked on used cars it had gone!!

Was very nice and a good price, hope you enjoy.

I traded my old vRS on last month for a brand new one

My old car was a 2008 57 Reg race blue petrol vRS with 20,000 on the clock.

Got £10000 for it p/x.

The car never made the forecourt.

It was sold a day after it was traded in for £12,000.

Bur then again it was owned by me. So it's quite possibly the cleanest most looked after car on the planet. :)

In fact it was in better nick than when it left the factory. Hence the good part Ex allowance and quick resale.

Great purchase mate, you won't be disappointed.

Available extras would be -

Xenons

Maxidot

18" Zeniths

Jumbo box

Rear Electric windows

Climatronic

blah, blah, blah.

Tbh mine has the jumbo box, rear electrics, climatronic and 18's, no xenons, but will be upgrading to a HID xenon kit for a fraction of the cost of OEM, no CD changer but the Stream HU is MP3 so you can use a rom disc holding 150+ songs (although I have just upgraded to the Bolero). My only regret is I didn't get maxidot, but then I only paid £7400 in January 2009 for a 2007MY with 38K.................. :DB)
