Replacement tyres for TDI octy

Featured Replies

I need a couple of 205/55 R16 tyres to replace the Michelin Pilot HXs that are running out of tread after 40k miles.

Any suggestions for a good place to get some replacements near Stourbridge in the west mids , and should I get some more of the same or look at another brand?

Kwik fit want 117 quid each to fit Michelins which seems a bit on the pricey

side.

They do some Pirelli P7s for 93 quid each fitted including a 15% discount which are tempting but not if they don't grip or last

Alex,

I put Pirelli P6000s on mine when the fronts went. More grip than the Pilots, but significantly noisier. I've had 13k out of them so far and still a good amount of tread left so they don't appear to be wearing too badly. Pirellis were traditionally poor for wear, but I think they're a bit better now. When the backs go (51k and still going on the original tyres), I think I might try something else. I quite like the Avons on Mrs Fen's Mondeo.

You could always try Mytyres or Blackcircles. Blackcircles will give you the address of the nearest fitting shops once you have decided on the tyres you want.

Cheers,

P6000's are poor in my opinion....

Toyo Proxes are good in the wet but don't last too long in the dry (around

Actually, I wasn't suggesting that P6000s were a good choice ;) It's that situation where you need tyres, someone has them in stock and they are a good price....

They are incredibly noisy, and don't give a lot of feedback on when they are going to let go, hence why I said I'd try something else next time.

I think Nick (ncarring) put Kumhos on his car and wasn't too impressed with them.

I can't afford to put new tyres on every 15k, so I'm looking for a decent balance of longevity and reasonable grip for the next pair.

I suspect I'll end up with more of the same Michelins , as I can't complain about the 40k lifespan , and I can't really criticise the amount of grip they have.

Now just got to find somewhere cheap

Pilot HX's are

Pilot Primacys are 204 for a pair fitted on Black Circles , and I've found a 5% discount code so that gets them down to 194 quid which isn't too bad. I'd prefer to get the tyres and fitting from the same place , but getting a pair for 160 then finding someone to fit them is tempting.

Thanks Geoff , I'll have to phone a couple of local garages and see how much they will charge to attach them to the car

Presumably you have to pay extra for the tread and grip?

Nah - I was referring to the infamous 4 x 100 tyre bargain that Geoff got for some 205/50s for his car. ;) And Pete never heard the end of it. :D

I must have missed that one.

The Dunlop SP Sport 2000 tyres on my car are far too noisy for my liking on some road surfaces. I will try another make when I eventually replace them.

Yep, I'll agree with that. I'm probably going to go with Yokohama AVS dB Decibel when my fronts need replacing.

I went to Eco-Contis from Michelin on the last Octy, and found them very good. The Superb has Bridgestons, which dont seem too bad either, but arent wearing as well as I would normally expect, so I will probably go for Continetals of some description again.

Sounds a bit pricey to me Geoff ............... ;)

One of them is brand new ;)
