Low / juddery boost - Injectors?

Featured Replies

Hi again.

Had a post couple of days ago explaining my boost issue.

I took it a to a garage today and straight away he said it feels like the injectors are blocked. I admitted i had ran it low on diesel a couple of times last week.

Its booked in for a fuel filter change and going to try some additive.

I put some additive in it on the way home and done about 10 miles since. Feels a tiniest bit better.

But it still judders when boosting and has hardly any. It also wont make it past 3k revs and feels like clutch slip but i dont think it is.

MPG is also shocking...

Just wondering if this additive i have added now will work and how long it may be till i see some effects.

Anything else it may be?

Need my car :/

So sending off injectors isnt too easy.

Does this fault definatly sound like blocked injectors?

It cut out twice on the motorway and im getting 13mpg going 50mph odd.

If i put my foot down from 2k is just shudders still and has hardly any boost.

It wont accelerate past 3k.

This happened to me after a track day in September, first my ASR light came on then I had the exact same symptoms as yourself. I considered all options and spoke to a few of the site sponsors on Brisky whilst I was trying to get it sorted. Cleaning your injectors is a costly and time consuming process, first you have to get offending injector removed, then send it off to Bosch or somewhere and they'll charge you about £250 and to top it off I was told it's not guaranteed to work! A VAG COM scan will tell you which injector is faulty / which cylinder is misfiring. NOTE, I was told its not a good idea to drive the car whilst its doing this as there are 'antisymmetric forces' in the engine that can cause further damage?

This is where it has the potential to get expensive....a new injector from the stealers is £650! I simply couldn't afford this option so I got my engine code and part number details and began to ring round a few breaker yards, in the end I managed to track one down by using breakeryard.com although the first one I got sent was the wrong injector, different Fabia vRS's have different injectors - I think the last character of the part number is different. I spoke to my local Skoda dealer and they were pretty helpful in telling me the exact part number I needed. They did query why I was asking for the part number but when they discovered it was a £650 part... they were pretty understanding.

In the end I paid £80 for a used one from a breakers and they fortunately took great care packing it up as they're pretty sensitive parts. I had to find a new garage who were willing to do the work though as some places seemed a bit reluctant to touch injectors, the place I used was called Auto Haus Dolby in Sheffield (near Meadowhall) - they were absolutely superb  they had my car for 2 days, charged me around 5-6 hours labour and cost £180. The best labour rates I have ever encountered!

Once fitted the car was back to it's best and hasn't skipped a beat yet! If you have time on your hands id opt for a second hand injector given the price of a new one, I mean another £300 and you can buy an entirely new engine. Depending on your mileage this may be an option?

Good luck in getting it sorted bud.

All best, John

my golf's doing this

ESP light comes on now and again and juddery from low boost

i do have a set of race injectors here to go in :)

question does it take a while for the car to behave normally once warmed up? i.e mines wont rev and struggles for the first 20 seconds

Uhh.

Not the best news then!

v/RS has been shocking in 1 month of ownership lol.

Will see how this fuel filter change etc goes.

The ASR is interesting.

My traction control light comes on after about 20 mins of driving...

Is this related?

No, it takes ages to turn over like 20 seconds or so. Even when warm, and it wont really rev above 3k anywhere. Cut out 3 times on me now down the motorway.

When cutting out, the revs have remained and the speed has been constant untill i dip the clutch then the revs drop to 0 and cuts out...

Out of curiosity is your vRS a high miler? Mine had clocked up 94k before my injector problem, I was advised against using an injector cleaner as I was warned it may push the blockage further through the system although Im not technically minded to fully understand the implications of this. Apparently the ASR light coming on can mean numerous things which I wasnt aware of, a vag com scan will reveal the problems.

Similarily my symptons used to occur when the car was up to optimum temperature, this does sound like exactly the same problem.

Have you made any breaker enquiries or called you dealer to find out what injector part number you need, not all Fabia vRS injectors are the same?

Hope you get this sorted soon. John

Has this car actually been hooked up to see what the ECU is saying is wrong?

Had it ran using a OBD II (or w.e) and it found no issues. Its on 76k miles.

Been over on the tdiclub.com forums and they recon it leads to a fuel filter blockage, the hard to start, engine hesitation and not running above 3k ish under hard throttle.

I ideally need it VAGCOM scanned but am finding it hard to find someone. Not paying the £44 or w.e VW charge.

Having a new fuel filter done wednesday (at same time as steering rack) so will see how it feels after that.

Yeah you deffo need to get this scanned as Jason has said, someone on here might do it for you for a few beer tokens - If remember rightly when I scanned mine it was showing a misfire on the second cylinder, I don think I had a specific injector fault showing - could be wrong though.

Yeah i know :/

I cant find that thread with a list of all the people from which areas do VAGCOM... anyone linky?

Wont pay 44quid to have a car hooked up on a computer but you are having a steering rack replaced? Whats the point on a car that wont run properly.

When you put it like that ha ;)

I meant im not going to pay £44 if someone off here can do it for less...
