Hi and welcome, yes the ASV has a turbo and I am interested in your gearbox oil change question as I'm sure mine will need doing so will watch with interest

Gearbox is a "sealed for life" unit in VW land and thus they say it does not need the oil changing.

I changed my gearbox oil at about 100k. It is worth using the VW stuff though, as some people have reported issues with other oils. I however used FUCS stuff (with the appropriate rating) and have not had any issues in the following 75k miles.

oh... TDI = turbo diesel, SDI = sluggish diesel :giggle: If your feels like the turbo isn't working then then vanes on the turbo might be jammed.

Mines on 113000 now so will need changing, can you remember the oil rating and where the drain/filler plugs are located

A good tip. Make sure your filler plug comes off before draining it. You don't want to empty your gearbox oil and then discover the drain plug is seized/rounded off

Front and underneath of the box. As noted, remember to check you undo the filler one before draining. I used a length of flexi hose to get my oil in. The plus need a non-standard hex drive to get them out, iirc. I used a nut and bold wleded together and powered that from my socket set.

I have the oil containers at home, so will have a look. Pretty sure I asked my dealer and he had no idea and told me they did not change it, and thus would not tell me the spec!

Thanks for the info and I'd appreciate if you could check the oil spec for me

Looks like I'll have to check if I've got the right tools first :notme:

I bought a 17mm hex drive from halfords for about £4 to do the oil change. Got the oil from TPS, so proper VW stuff, cost about £14 IIRC. My car had about 90k on it when I changed it and it made a noticeable difference to the gear change.

When I went in TPS they asked if I was doing a full change and told me I would need two bottles. Closest TPS to you appears to be Rochester.
