Use of off road button in snow?

Featured Replies

Would there be any advantage in using the off road button on snow covered roads (a couple of inches here in Lincolnshire) , or is it just for going offroad as the name suggests? :smirk:

My guess is yes; it may soften the effects of accelerating and on braking it will allow a bit of slip which in turn allows snow to build up in front of the tyres helping to slow the car. However, I'm not an expert and I don't have any way to test it (our 4x4 is an Outsubishi Mooselander without such toys and our snow is about 1/4" deep).

My Off-Road button is always on when I am driving in snow. The conditions are similar to mud or slush. There is a probability that wheels will slip so tight control is needed.

I went through all last winter's snow without much problem and I am sure the Off-Road button helped. The hill-descent control is initiated and this does help (probably not in Linconshire!!)

The offroad button changes how the ESP system reacts, in normal I find ESP quite forgiving and not intrusive where as put it on offroad mode and it keeps to start working much earlier/quicker than previously.

I'd say yes, when driving on snow/ice covered roads, also going through fields and what not have it on.
