65.5mpg

Featured Replies

lol - Bit close to the lorry weren't we at times? ;) They can stop remarkably fast when they have to :D

Challenge now is to get 65mpg with no slipstreaming ;)

******* hell, was the lorry towing you?! Lol

Matt

your lucky he didnt slam is anchors on or that there were police going past you.

+1 on that, they have stoopid amount of stopping power (much much better than cars) as the brakes are run on compressed air.

Edit: Whats the middle yellow light up on the dash? I don't have one of those yet :giggle:

EGR valve was removed and not mapped out so it shows a engine warning light.

It's quite funny, literally seconds after that video the lorry pulled out on a car and forced a Mini onto the grass, the lady driving it went to a complete stop being bombing after it and sitting behind it for 100+ miles until I flashed her to pull over and gave my details to be a witness... ;) Unfortunately she was fat so she received fake details but it was worth a punt...

Not that one, I have one of those already :p The other one between the two dials.

The other orange light is for low screen wash - hardly suprising sitting right up the chuff of that truck, probably needed the screen washed on a regular basis :giggle:

Good result on the MPG.

But a shocking piece of driving being that close to the wagon!

i remember doing this behind a big milk tanker was astonishing how much the wash from the tanker just pulled the car along, pretty much right off the throttle yet easily maintained 60 :)

nice job, funny guys lol "quite a nice fello" lol

Yeah looking back it is a bit silly, it's strange how things seem completely fine when you're drunk! I suppose it's like bedding a fat bird...

I did a trip to Newcastle not long ago not slip streaming and really not trying for MPG and I got 60.2 to the gallon average

When your drunk :wonder:

This is my best in the 2004vRS - leaving the motorway at Birmingham Airport having driven up from Gloucester

The 2007vRS is hopelessly optimistic so I'd expect to exceed that by some margin on the same trip...

Lol i had to sign up to reply, are you trying to suggest a 10ton lorry has shorter stopping distances than any car, let alone a vrs?

Oh and vrsTurbo epic motor mate, looks lovely! I draft lorries daily in my a3 pd130 quattro hunting 60mpg :)

Think of the stone chips!!!

You could infer from his post that he doesn't mean they pull up in a shorter distance, just the brakes are more powerful. In the same way a tank has more power than my car, doesn't mean it's faster. . .

Regardless of that, there's also thinking distances to take into account.

To the OP: Was that done with c/c on, or without? As the c/c is meant to lower MPG isn't it?

why would cruise control lower your mpg when it keeps it at a constant speed

Something to do with it not coasting down hills, or building up speed on the flats for getting up hills. You and I can see we don't need the power, so we come off, c/c can't do that in the same way till it notices its speed building above the set limit. Or it'll wait till it's on the hill to accerlate, which is harder than gaining speed on the flat and maintaning it up the hill.

My personal best was 68.8mpg from my home in Bristol to Milton Keynes and back (M32 - M4 - M5 - M42 - M6 - M1) Up to 80 mph, avoiding hard launches (there were a few still!), and at least 2 seconds behind the car infront at all times.

I often get 60+ between Bristol & Swansea.. Its amazing how much damage to the overall trip's Mpg one hard launch does. One has to have so much self control!

i suppose but on a motorway?

i've just been out to the car and it's saying it getting 59.0mpg over 3004 miles.

it was 59.7 the other day before the snow.

it'll go up tonight though coz i'm off to birmingham, 160 mile round trip.
