Hello All - Not Even a Newbie!

Hello all

Thought I'd say Hi in the Yeti forum rather than the general section as this is where I plan to spend all my time. I already have the acquaintance of two members, 9000000 (enough zero's?) and fluffy destroyer of worlds.

Currently, my wife and I both own Audi A2's; me a last-of-the-line TDI 75 SE that is relatively standard (save for a remap, cruise and climate control plus some minor mods) which I plan to keep forever and my wife an early 1.6FSI Sport which the first owner threw the kitchen sink at, spending a ludicrous amount of money. I'm a previous social secretary of the International A2 Owners Club and have met many fantastic people (including 9000000...000...000) but having a son means I have relinquished this role.

So where does the Yeti fit in? Simple - I've only ever previously had goosebumps about three cars; the smart (owned two and loved them to bits, still miss them, will own a 450 again one day), the A2 and Citroen DS (wedding present was one to get me to the venue...I will obtain one at some point). However, the Yeti has also given me the same warm feeling, and as a family car for the three of us it fits the bill wonderfully - form over function, true Bauhaus. At the moment now is not the time to squander money on a new car, other things come first, so I'm going to spend a while on here but sometime soon-ish I will own a Yeti, either a new one or I'll happily take a nice example off an early-adopter who gets bored! I'm not into 'goodies' so a 2.0TDI 110 4x4 S with a few nice accessories (leather controls, cruise control and rear speakers, maxi-dot option would be nice, as would a spare wheel) will do me nicely, or an SE of similar mechanicals. My wife will pick the colour!

As for Skoda history, my parents owned a 1988 Estelle 120L5 and Favorit GLXiE Flairline Estate, both from new, so the brand has a strong emotional pull.

Hopefully, I can add something to this forum over time but will have a look around before starting with the stupid questions!

Welcome! :)

Welcome to the Snow Monster almost owners group ;-)

Mike

Hi Frank and welcome.

I owned an A2 for just over 7 years, was also a member of the A2OC, before parting company with my faithful friend. I was sad to see her go, my wife even more so, but I have to say the Yeti is a worthy replacement.

The A2 was never everyones cup of tea which was one of the things I liked about it. It was different, very practical with the removable seats, economical, didn't rust, not that common on the road and well built.

Strange how the above paragraph also applies to the Yeti. The good thing is the SM goes that bit further.

Add elevated driving position, heated windscreen, four wheel drive, 170BHP, quieter, better ride, heated seats, and just as much fun. Even the small things like the cargo nets and hooks in the boot for attaching shopping bags all add to the pleasure of owning the Yeti.

Still trying the win over my wife to liking the badge, if it had four rings on the front she'd be happy, although she is weakening as our new arrival is starting to get under her skin. Thing is she can't find any thing negative to say about the Yeti.

Yes the A2 is a good car, and a well kept secret, but I have to admit the Yeti is even better!

Hi and welcome to the SMOC Frank :)

Have a 110 4x4 Elegance (replacing a 140 :giggle: ) on order myself and there a fairly rare beast. Think to get the bits and peices you desire then an SE would be the way to go. However I've so far only seen one for sale and it's listed for almost £500 more than a new one inc options; off-road button and metallic paint :o

Thanks for the welcome, it's much appreciated!

...Think to get the bits and peices you desire then an SE would be the way to go...

Having looked closer to the price list I think you're right - prefer the 16" 'S' wheels and honesty but the SE has the bits I want and some other useful stuff too such as headlight washers which will make up the difference, and despite the vertical rear my wife will be happy with the parking sensors too. However, it'll be a while before signing on the dotted line.

Onesque, I feel the Yeti is a natural A2 bedfellow - the good news for me is that I'll keep my A2 so don't have to part to get into a Yeti - the A2 TDI will be my commuting tool for ever, it's part of the family.

The other good news is that my 16 month old son, Johan, now says 'Yeti' (it's his first car name, rather than just 'CAR') so it's only a matter of time as pester-power is on my side :)

Awh. His first word is Yeti?! You should buy him the reversible Yeti toy from a dealer. You'll see mine in the passenger door if you click on the link in my signature.

You got me into camping so I'm looking forward to going camping with Yetis! I'm only 350miles into life sans A2 but I already know this car is going to crawl under my skin in the same way as the A2. A car I kept for nine years since nothing could match his abilities. Until the Yeti came out. Seats I can take out, a sunroof that can open, scarcity, distinctive looks... All present plus so much more.

So when am I coming for tea to show you two and my namesake the Yeti?

Morning Frank :)

I did notice a lot of love for the A2 on here (and rightly so!) wholeheartedly agree with you on the 450 and can totally, utterly recomend the Yeti as a wonderful place to be - especially if you have a family.

It's a very different beast indeed to the GTA and I won't even attempt to compare the two but safe to say I have gelled very much with this superb car despite putting petrol in it....

Only issue is that with us both working in the public sector things are very iffy indeed (particularly for me) I would be tremendously upset if I have to give 'Snowy' back :S

One of the things that always surprised people when then got in the A2 was the comfort in the back for tall people. Like the A-class Merc the A2 has a sandwich floor under the driver and thus you sit that bit higher than in a normal car. But unlike the A-class the sandwich does not run the length of the car. It stops at the front seats and thus the floor of the rear seats is a good 130mm lower than the front. This means that unlike in the A-class - or a lot of other cars to be honest - rear seat passengers do not sit with their knees around their faces and only their behinds touching the seat. Your entire leg is supported with your lower leg hanging down comfortably.

Last night was my first trip in the back seat of the Yeti. Wow. The floor to top of back seat distance is pretty similar to the A2's! It was very comfortable back there I have to say with tons of space under the front seats for my size 11 feet. I will easily put people back there and drive pretty far without fear of them moaning.

I won't mention the amazing view out the sunroof so as to not upset anyone. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

He's saying loads of words, but Yet is the first car model he's nailed - had a look at the toy but apparantly they are £31...sheesh!

You're always welcome at our manor Johann, we are only a trip up the A1 just where Bedfordshire meets Cambridgeshire, a couple of minutes off the main road - whenever you're next travelling up then let me know and just pop in! As for camping, we have just replaced our tent with an Outwell Oakland XL so camping next year is a deffo, already have about 4 trips organised

Fluffy - we feel your pain, all of our plans car related will take a back seat if Marie finds out she's going to be made redundant - they're telling them all the W/C 20th December... the 'good' news is she will probably stay if initial feedback is to be believed, the bad news is her office moves from ten miles down the road to the centre of Cambridge; half hour commute will change into an hour and a half at least with no parking space at the end, which is a non-starter so she'd be looking elsewhere anyway...a small redundancy package then finding a new job might be better...

Anyhow, just been into Progress Skoda in Bedford and still utterly convinced the Yeti is the way to go! Also suspect the SE is indeed the correct spec but will need to try a few engines - they had a Tangerine one on demo which looks awesome but will need some brave-pills to be swallowed methinks!

LOL NO! There are TWO soft Yeti toys. The one you are referring to is HUGE.

My little one (also called Frank) is much smaller as you saw since he fits in the door bin! He is called a two in one toy in the Accessory Brochure, costs £16 and has a reference number 11912. See pics attached. Sorry for low quality. Have not had the chance to take better ones yet!

That big pic could be a picture of my back seat! The Fuhrer has called him Snowflake and it was a condition of buying the car.

It has attracted one or two comments....!

Frank I looked at the Tangerine on ordering. We looked at a Furby (an estate) which was in the showroom and decided it wasn't for us.

We then picked our Candy white Yeti up and there in the showroom was a Tangerine Yeti - looking way better than the Furby did :wonder:

It would be a tough decision now - especially as I quite fancy brunello red as well!

I can certainly confirm a Yeti takes a heck of a lot longer to clean than a smart that's for sure :)

I'm loving Frank - that is deffo on the Christmas list for the little fella!

I'd agree Brunello red looks great...decisions....decisions! Also checked the Yeti fits the 'me behind me' test and it does, with ease - not amny cars do that ;)
