anyone tried washing the car in this freezing weather?

Featured Replies

how do you wash without the water and shampoo freezing up?

this is what i did this afternoon. the cold water actually melted the ice, but in a matter of seconds the shampoo and water mixture just freezed up.

now i've got a dirty car with frozen shampoo

erm, why would you clean your car when temps so low?

Yes. Used two buckets containing plain hot water

Did a side then dried off as it was freezing again

Wifes Fabia will have to stay dirty

Try a waterless wash solution, often known as ONR (optimum no rinse) or a cleaning spray such as Mantis. You'll have a lot more luck than trying to use bucket and hose when it's -5!

i didn't think it would be cold enough for the water and shampoo to freeze up lol

I used warm water to wash the mongrel yesterday and it didn't freeze right away. Was enough of a gap to wash, rinse & dry off. Hands were like rocks of ice after though, despite the warm water, so god knows how you folks up country are getting on.....

i only have cold water tap outside the house. i'll have to boil the kettle and buy some buckets i think

should i give the car a spin and warm it up now (and get rid of the iced water) or it'll be fine tomorrow morning

i'm not going to wash the car anytime.

The simple answer to this is very difficultly, I was out both days at the weekend detailing some unusual motors but you just have to get on with it.............

Even quick detailer and ONR type products will freeze in this weather...............

Warm water will cool and freeze quicker than cold water.

Forget the scientific name. Basically rising heat lifts cold air. It's how Einstein's fridge works. ;)

insane, people should be fined for this especially if the water runs off onto a footpath and the road.

I wanted to clean mine (and did at least manage to get the wheels done) because of the copious amounts of road salt and grime that found their way on to the car. Never really sure how much damage it is doing and in my view it's better off than on!

that's why i wanted to qive the car a quick wash. for those of you whove noticed the date of my original post it was sunday afternoon, before all this snow and below freezing point temperature, but still cold enough to freeze water

I wanted to clean mine this weekend, but far too cold- the hose is frozen for a start.

I have a very daft question.

Does natural snow work like snow foam? Will it clean my car?

I assume as no one has replied this answers your question...................... :giggle:

I usually do all my own detailing, but in this weather I go to the hand jet wash nearby as they only use jet wash (so hopefully no scratching) and it's warm water and foam. Plus, they have proper drainage, so no extra ice on the road/drive. At least I feel better than leaving ice/salt/crud on it.

Try washing cars allday in it lol
