Remote Central (Un)Locking

Featured Replies

I think my Fabia dislikes the snow.

Left work yesterday and got to the car, but pressing unlock in the fob did nothing. No noise from the car at all. At first I thought the battery may have died with the cold weather and the age of the key, but pressing the lock button locks the doors and a double press does the deadlocks still, plus holding the boot release unlocks and opens the boot still.

Apart from the really odd feeling, using the key in the door works fine to unlock all the doors of the car. Though I do feel its a race to beat the alarm once the door's open.

Has anyone come across something like this? I'm going to try the spare key when I can get to it after work, see if that does it too. But does it sound like the battery getting weak? Or something far more expensive and electrical? I don't see it being wiring if the door lock works fine? Which leaves me thinking it's something more dire :'(

I have had this, took the battery out - cleaned up the contacts back in and it worked. Maybe just a slightly dead battery.

Could be that the button for unlock on your circuitry has gone. Try the battery out method first :p

I had one where the button had fallen apart, a fiddly but straight forward repair.

Fantastic, was sceptical as it was just the one button not working, but took the battery out and cleaned up the contacts and It now works perfectly!

Thanks!

Just wanted to make you aware that according to the Fabia manual, a single press of the remote control double locks (deadlocks) the doors (and the drivers door LED will flash) and a double press will single lock the doors (and the drivers door LED will not flash).

Thus you may well have been single locking your car all this time if you have been double pressing...

Yeah, that's what I meant, "does the deadlocks" meant (in my head) turn them off. Sure my LED flashes regardless though?

Not quite correct for cars fitted with an alarm.

The manual states:

Safe securing

The central locking system is equipped with a safe securing system. Locking the

vehicle from the outside causes the door locks to be automatically blocked. It is not

possible to pull out the locking buttons. The indicator light in the driver's door

flashes. It is not possible to open the doors with the door handle either from the

inside or from the outside. This acts as an effective deterrent for attempts to break

into your vehicle.

You can deactivate the safe securing system. This is done by locking the vehicle with

the key or radio-operated key twice within 2 seconds.

Deactivating the safe securing system means that the warning light next to the

securing knob in the driver's door ⇒ page 34, fig. 23 will not flash. This is not the

case, however, for an activated anti-theft alarm system* since the indicator light is

showing that the system is active.

When you press the remote for the second click, the door buttons jump ever so slightly as the inside handles are reactivated - but the LED remains flashing because that's indicating the alarm is set... (I know because I've just tried it)

What I stated was largely correct and indeed spot on for my vehicle without the factory fitted alarm. :D

Obviously if you have the factory fitted alarm then the LED will continue to flash as you highlighted, unfortunately I didn't have the manual to hand to get it word for word, but thanks for clarifying...
