drinks holder and draw fitted

Featured Replies

recently got one of these as an alternative to the centre cubby hole http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Center-Dash-Cup-Holder-Radio-Stereo-Surround-Pod-Car-/230546310995?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_FasciaPlates_SM&hash=item35ada18753

managed to get it fitted today!

i found it easier to remove the original cubby hole and fit the new unit if the surround around the stereo is removed, it just clips in so a light tug from the bottom should unclip it

tiger sealed the surround to the unit otherwise its to small without it

then tiger sealed the the facia to the car as there's no other way to secure it unless you dismantle the centre console (its to cold for that :giggle: )

you cant see it when the surrounds back on

held in place while the sealer takes hold (not pretty but affective)

as it looks fitted, still needs to set properly before i start using it and hopefully the tiger seal will hold it securely

Looks good

Is there not an easy way of screwing it in place?

not unless you take the centre console to bits and bolt it from the side's which if the tiger seal doesn't hold i will do but it will have to wait till the warmer weather :giggle:

bloody snow

Oh I see, so did you remove the original "cubby hole" or does this slide inside it?

Ok thanks, so how is the original cubby hole held in place?

it just slides in and clips into place. i used a screw driver carefully to either side and the top of the cubby hole and eased it out

Good guide m8, just wonder if tiger seal will be strong enough as the weight of a drinks can will be pushing the front of the down if you know what I mean?

i know what you mean and only time will tell :giggle: it was to cold to be stripping the centre console so this was the easiest option

but saying that tiger seal is pretty strong so hopefully it'll be ok

24 - 48 hours and it sets like concrete :giggle:

i used it to bond a spoiler once and then decided to remove it, took 2 blokes actually kicking the spoiler to remove it. the boot lid wasnt in great shape after either

  • 2 weeks later...

okay just bought one of these for my vrs mk1 2001

Unclipped the surround .....and removed the cubby hole , then there was nothing to hold my stereo in/up??

Also the actual unit itself without the surround is about 2/3cm either side too small , ie- When you put it all back in place the actual middle goes into the hole where the vw cubby hole was,and the surround for the drawers stays where it is??? ?.........how did you get around these issues?

edit - just noticed that where you tiger sealed it , there seems to be a slot you sealed it to ? what is this , did you trim the cubby hole down and slide it in that? as theres nowt there if I removed the cubby hole?, should there be?....

any pics/tips to asist me ...

Took my Vinny hole out and tiger sealed it to the plastic part in the car. Can be seen in the pics unless yours has had an after Market stereo in at some point?

My stereo was held in as it's never been removed,

You need to tiger the surround to the holder then you should see once u offer it up to the hole where the tiger seal needs to be

yeah once I took my cubby hole out there was nothing there or above it ....so one large hole where the stereo sits and the cubby hole below ....
