I think harsh and ignorant is a bit strong. I'm GUESSING he's 23 and that the car was driven significantly harder than it had been by his granny. Hardly harsh or ignorant.

Fair comment

Careful! You could be accused of stereotyping young people!

Not wishing to point out the fact that you've just stereotyped young people yourself, then compounded the fact by pointing out that you think you're a highly responsible driver, but you're not typical of 23 year olds. Are you then the exception to the rule?

I am not 'the exception', I am a exception, or so I would like to be considered. Nor do I consider myself to be highly responsible, I believe I still have a lot to learn, and I have already learnt a vast amount by being a member on these forums, but I do consider myself to be a competent driver. I accept that I also made some stereotypical comments, unfortunately stereotypes are a part of society and difficult to ignore, I just don't think people should be judged on one single trait (ie. age), but I will also accept that it is generalised that all young car drivers are lunatics or nutters (as this is what the insurance companies seem to think!!).

The sad fact is that by posting in these forums we show traits in ourselves that we are unaware of. I'm quite happy to apologise if you, or anyone else, found anything I wrote harsh or ignorant. I've admitted that I was in error when I mixed up timing chains and cambelts. I think the OP deserves a bit of harsh treatment, after all he has been exposed as being a trifle economical with the truth and his comments do not strike me as reasonable or balanced.

If you find my characterisation of 23-year-olds and 'young people' offensive then I apologise for that too, and possibly for pointing out the potential hypocrisy in your own comments.

There is no need to apologise, you are entitled to your own point of view, and I think I over reacted to some extent, and maybe took your comments a little personally, or to heart, for which I apologise. The parts in italics above I have to say I agree with :p As previously stated, I accept my own hypocrisy but get bloody frustrated with the idiots that do give young people a bad name!

I'm in this thread for a bit or 'Rally round the flag troll bashing' and I'm quite happy to admit it. Try it, it's quite liberating to just let rip once in a while! ;)

I agree things do go wrong more often its not just Skoda, same issues occur with many VAG cars. All depends on how your car has been maintained you cant fault SKODA in particular.

If your thinking of getting an AUDI, VW, SEAT, dont because they share similar parts depending on the model obviously.

Go Honda or Toyota and you will not regret it! Pure reliability!

Toyota quote is not true - there have been a couple of serious recalls with Toyotas over the last couple of years, therby disqualifying that statement.

Go & look on ANY forum & you will see lots & lots & lots of posts saying how bad thier cars are ( honda included).

Rusty fuel tanks seems quite common on Toyotas of a certain age. I guess it could be avoided by cleaning and slapping on some under seal though. And you wouldn't believe how much a new tank costs.

...Good points well argued...

It's always nice to have a reasoned argument/discussion with another intelligent Skoda owner, no matter how old they are.

Some very harsh and ignorant comments on here...but thats about the norm......

Personally I think you misjudge the OP. He has made only 4 previous posts in around 10 months. His 5th post being this thread. This make me believe he isn’t quite the fanatic that many members on here are (no law against that of course). Perhaps he doesn’t care for his care in the same careful manner that many Briskoderites do?

But his post is nonsensical at best. If you read my first entry you will see he has changed the facts surrounding his car and the length of ownership he has enjoyed (or not, as the case may be). Did his Nan care for the car correctly? (I suspect he will say yes to that one). I consider him to be an unreliable poster because of his falsehoods and therefore believe his post to be one of hormonally fuelled rage. I do believe he has got a problem with his car, but that is the only thing that makes any sense about his post.

We should stop feeding this thread as if a Troll gets to big from overfeeding, it can’t be removed through a normal door frame and we will have to knock a wall down to let him leave Briskoda with his dignity intact :D

Wow, we haven't had a troll for a while.. Shame we scared him of though emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

He was back on having a look at 17:26 yesterday. I bet he has a peep again today too :D

I don't know, I can jam an awful big troll through that door when I get going

Well if it got stuck it would keep the draughts out :)

So there he was, just trying to give members a bit of advice about car buying, and everyone jumped on him. He is entitled to a view and he should not be judged adversely because it didn't fit in with most of our experiences of Skoda. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Wholeheartedly agree.

And Lady Elanore OCD snooping and checking up on posters viewing habits should be banned....(only with that coloured font).. :wonder:

TROLL

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response."

4 posts + 1 highly inflammatory post, then not responsed to thread that they started = TROLL

Given the posts here they probably did not reply because their Gran never serviced it, they never serviced it, and it broke down after thrashing it around a corner.

After 6 years???

I give up :S - you lot are beyond reason. I bet any of you who suffers a major engine failure (in this case camchain failure - thats supposed to be a lifetime component) will not have a "oh that's life......lets go and buy another one..." attitude,

Its not surprising the OP never continued on this thread given the visceral nature of these replies. You're like a pack of feral dogs.

I noticed on his OP that he had only posted 5 times, so I wondered why he hadn't been active. If you want the feature removed then I suggest you petition the Mods. 3,700+ peeps have viewed my stats (:D) and to be honest it doesn't worry me in the slightest. I have no axe to grind either as I don't even own a Skoda. The guy is/was a Troll (except he is presumably hiding, hence not actually trolling as such). Think I will have a look at your posts now................emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Aye, but at least you admit it!

I agree with your first sentence too. Obviously the OP had no value on their car, so had no worries about wrecking it or breaking it. If my cambelt/timing chain broke I would be highly annoyed, but I would not be slagging off the Skoda brand, in fact, the only reason I slag them off is because I think it's ridiculous that cambelt has to be changed every 4 years! I took mine off after 5 and it was like new still!!

I don't think the people here have a problem with the nature/topic of the post. It is merely the language used. This forum is supposedly for discussion, assistance and community. This person has not really requested any of those things, and bearing in mind most people here own Skoda's, he will get a very negative response from people on a post like that.

That is all.

I am afraid I disagree, anybodyshould be allowed to slate anything (even if they are wrong/inflammatory) that is what forums and discussion is about; however, even if you start with an unhinged rant (blood possibly boiling) you should stick around to defend your statements and maybe later place them in a more logical and thought out manner.

This is my 50th post, so I'll only half slate my car! :-) To be brutally honest, I bought my vRS in January this year as a sensible and more economic replacement to an ageing and tired 172000 mile MX5.

It was a 60,000 mile car, one owner full history, from a dealer, turbo replaced under warranty at 40,000 odd miles. So I thought I'd be getting a good one! So far, new turbo after the 3 month warranty ran out (OK, I should've bought the extended warranty but couldn't afford too), I've had two rust bubbles on the sills plus small blisters on the back of the arches, the lacquers fell off the rear spoiler, the chrome is peeling off the front grill, the rear washers have done the usual and broke, the rear doors leak like the titanic(maybe an exaggeration), the front washer bottle leaks, the front brakes stick on slightly and squeal like a banshee and there are various clunks from the front suspension. Admittedly some of the things are little niggles, but it just makes the whole experience pretty crap after less than a year!!! BUT, I can accept that I may have got a Friday afternoon car and obviously not all Skodas are like mine, a work colleague has had no problems other routine servicing, tyres and a brake light switch.

But after the MX5 I have to say I'm not too impressed so far! In 10 years and 120,000 (in my ownership) the only breakdown I had in the Mazda was a Cam sensor last year(£21 off ebay).

oh yeah, back to the Skoda, the dash buzzes and the passenger vent is broke too! B)

Having said all this, I still love driving it, I just feel very wary about it!!!!

Hopefully I've put my point over reasonable well without offending the entire Skoda fraternity... if not, let the flames begin! :D

My 2007vRS has been a disaster and if I could get rid of it now without losing a lot of money I would !!!!!

That's a shame. My 07 vRS has never missed a beat. It has cost me nothing other than servicing, basic maintenance, tyres, fuel etc (unless you count 312's, arb, remap and a few other extra bits - but that is my fault not the car!)

The lacquer on the spoiler is a common fault, as is the lacquer peeling around the join of the rear bumper. The rear washer may be a popped pipe that runs under the rear seats that can also lead to water in the rear footwells, having said that the rear carriers do tend to leak on the windows, I would be surprised if these haven't been sealed once already as it effects just about every car. The brakes squealing (or mooing) if it occurs in reverse is one that normally effects the Octavia but as been known on the fabia, especially if the bigger discs have been fitted, shouldn't be sticking on though. Clunks from the front will be the bushes, on an 05 I would expect them to have been replaced already once but if std parts where used they will be well shot by now.

So all in all just the Turbo and rust that I would call out of the ordinary though if as been remapped and running a decat then there have been reports of the KKK std turbo being quite weak. The rust I would guess at chipped paint or bodged repair in some way. hth

Nearly forgot dash board buzz is also quite common, believe there is a fix by removing the central vents and supporting the offending buzzy thing.

I absolutely agree, and I would go further and say that anyone else has the absolute right to contradict anything that has been posted, even if it comes across an unhinged rant and calls for the original poster to be the subject of the Skoda equivalent of a fatwa. Seems fair enough to me.

massive differences in the same cars in terms of build quality is what i have found,my first skoda was an 04 fabia vrs bought new from simpsons,it was an absolute disaster area,in the 11 months i owned the car it had every fault under the sun, bits of interior/exterior fell off it was unreal!!!! skoda replaced the car free of charge,i took the second fabia and instantly traded it for a mk2 octavia vrs tfsi, which to this day is the best built car i have ever owned or driven,no rattles squeeks it was unreal, shame it was so dull!!!! i had a bit of a break from skoda untill 2007 when i took delivery of a fabia vrs se,i ran it for 2 years and never had a fault that wasn't down to my excessive modifications on the car,all in i have no idea why my 04 vrs was such a poorly built car and my 07 was so much better? My mum took delivery of her 04 vrs a week after mine and still has it,only ever had the doorseals done under warrenty its been faultless, same as my dads 54 plate fabia vrs doorseals only and still going strong.

Mrs Goldfinger and I are on our 13th Skoda

Few minor niggles but otherwise all OK

Will be having more emoticon-0144-nod.gif
