Can a Service be done at any VW, Seat or Audi dealers?

Featured Replies

I was just wondering, is it possible to service a Skoda in any of the VW, Seat or Audi dealers? or only Skoda?

You can go to any VAT registered garage who use OEM parts.

Providing the above rules are followed the warranty will not be affected.

I heard there is a slight caveat to this. The first two years of your 3 year warranty is from SUK. The third is from the dealer chain. And should they see your non franchise service history they might refuse your warranty claims during the 3rd year...

But as SEAT, Audi and Skoda are all owned by VW and the parts have VW/Audi stamped all over them it'd be a brave dealer that tried it on.... Also, I beleive the third year warranty is actually Skoda UK whereas the first two years is manufacturer waranty i.e. Skoda (probably a mute point for me as I'll hit 60K at about the two year mark anyway)

You would hope the various brands accept each other's workmanship... But that is a fight I'd rather not want to have come year three.

As to the who gives you the third year warranty see this from the Skoda website:

ŠkodaAuto are pleased to provide a two year unlimited mileage warranty against defects in material or manufacture on all its new vehicles. In addition ŠkodaAuto UK provides a further warranty on new vehicles supplied by them, through their appointed retailer network which is valid until the vehicle has completed 60,000 miles or the end of the third year, whichever is the sooner. In the event of a vehicle becoming defective due to faulty manufacture or material, it must be promptly returned to an appointed Škoda Retailer or Authorised Repairer where it will be repaired free of charge.

Hmm ... the EU block exemption regulations forbid manufacturers from requiring work be done by themselves/franchised dealers ...

I think the underlining point here may be that, as with all warranty claims, the co-operation of the SUK dealer

is of considered benefit.

Any Skoda dealer may well see that work has been done outside the dealership to a standard which is both unknown and

not necessarily approved.

The use and production of VAG parts and VAT certification documents does not guarantee first class workmanship.

True. You can take your brand new Skoda to the man-under-the-railway-arch and still have a warranty. As long as he uses genuine parts and can prove he used them. He is even allowed to stamp your service book. That is the case for the first two years. In year three you will have no warranty if you go this route since then the warranty is basically at the dealer's discretion.

Just before your highlighted part it says "Skoda UK provides a further warranty on new vehicles supplied by them" the part you've highlighted shows who does the actual work. The actual warranty provider is Skoda UK themselves

There's also a section at the end about authorised repairer which I would imagine could be an VW group franchise with the correct arguments to Skoda UK (owned by VW Group...)

I think this can be read both ways. In typical SUK fashion dare I say.

"In addition ŠkodaAuto UK provides a further warranty... through their appointed retailer network". This can also be read that there is a third year warranty and that SUK arranged for this to be provided by their dealers... emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Either way I'd rather not mess with these things to be honest.

Neither does using an official Skoda dealer - does it Sherlodge?? :swear:

I found the clarification further down in that very same PDF document (so I don't think it is ambigious at all - your third year warranty is coming from your dealer - and at his discretion re stamps from the man-under-the-railway-arch):

The third year warranty with 60,000 miles limitation

After the first two years of your warranty, your vehicle will be covered by a third year Škoda authorised network warranty if:

• The vehicle has not exceeded 60,000 miles

• The vehicle was imported by Škoda UK and supplied through the United Kingdom Škoda authorised network

The third year warranty with 60,000 miles limitation

After the first two years of your warranty, your vehicle will be covered by a third year Å koda authorised network warranty if:

• The vehicle has not exceeded 60,000 miles

• The vehicle was imported by Škoda UK and supplied through the United Kingdom Škoda authorised network

Which is interesting as I'm sure my dealer told me the third year warranty was Skoda UK...

Can I go to a non Å koda retailer for servicing?

You are of course free to choose where you have your vehicle serviced. However, we would always recommend that a Å koda Retailer is used as they receive full training in the servicing of Skoda vehicles and are kept up-to-date with technical information. Having a service completed at a non-franchised retailer will not in itself invalidate the warranty. However, should any difficulty arise that is deemed to be as a direct result of incorrect/incomplete servicing, any remedial work required would not be covered under your new vehicle warranty.

To me that reads that they will try and use a non Skoda dealer service as an excuse to get out of the warranty, however, I have emailed Skoda for clarification regarding warranty claims if I were to use another VW Group dealer for servicing. I expect the above standard answer to come back to me...

As i said earlier, for me the third year is a mute point anyway as I will be over the 60K limit unless my job role changes drastically in the next year

Its fine if you go elsewhere, you still get your unlimited warranty for two years and the third year capped at 60k.

The only thing is goodwill warranty outside the above can/will be effected.
