Dash Lights dimming

Featured Replies

Hi all! I have a Skoda Fabia 1.4 which was new in Sept 09. My dash lights seem to dim and then go back to normal almost instantly intermitantly, it happens only when my windscreen wipers are on, so whether it's the wipers or the rain effecting them.... and it was so bad on Tues with the bad weather i've stopped using it until i can get to the Skoda garage... has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm just worried it's the first sign of a bigger problem... and want to go into the garage pre-armed with previous info if anyone else has suffered the same! thanks v much

Sounds like a weak battery or something which is not holding charge possibly? Hopefully the garage will be able to get it all sorted quickly for you.

I too have a Sept 09 Fabia II (1.2HTP). Just had it's 2nd service last week no faults until today; I noticed dash lights dim intermittently whilst windscreen wipers on intermittent wipe. I could swear I heard a 2nd relay clicking just after the wiper relay. Incidentally the battery was checked at the service.

I understand Fabia I's had a problem with the steering angle sensor that could cause similar problems.

Did you find out anything Claire28?

It happens to mine too - for example if blinkers are on you can notice that the dash lights fade in and out slightly to the rhythm of the blinkers - same goes for the dome lights but since I've installed leds there is no effect. MKI used to do it and MKII pre-facelift seems to do it too. My battery is fine so it is probably the way it draws current?

My Mk1 did it especially when turning the wheel at slow speeds. Most cars I've driven dim the lights a bit when something electrical is used

I don't ever recall dash lights dimming when something electrical is used on any car I've driven in the last 35 years. What worries me about my problem is that it seems random, I'm beginning to wonder if something was disturbed during the service as it's never happened before. Must say I'm not too impressed with the car, should have kept my Felicia and the cash!
