Skoda going BMW?

Featured Replies

Well not quite. thought the octavia vrs was great package because everything and the kitchen sink was thrown in. thought the same when we bought fabia vrs.everything we could want for toys and the like and we just had to choose a colour. see now there are lots and lots on fab vrs options list.xenons heated seats etc.wish they wouldn't do this.don't think the list price then realistically reflects what it's finally going to cost you(although i see some people have got some great deals with extras)

Keep it simple i say.reminds me when BMW charged to put a stereo in your car and explains why BMW mini drivers pay

True, but that is how they keep the price attractive, although Skoda are a lot better than others as all the extras are not seen to be too important anyway, just luxuries (although I do miss the heated seats from my elegance sometimes).

Air con on the Civic type-R is a

There is another problem with all these options - they drive the delivery times through the roof! When I bought my Octy RS (2001) I think the only option was the colour. I wanted a black one, but the dealer told me he could get me a silver one quicker, so I went for silver and got it in 4 weeks.

Now, with all the options, virtually every car (unless you go for total bog standard) is a factory order - so I ordered my Octy II mid-December, and the dealer's now telling me I probably won't get it till the end of March!

Thats just Skoda's rubbish ordering system. Instead of just placing an order and it beingbuilt at the first avaliable space, they allocate specific build times to the models. Say you want a Octavia elegance with xenons in mettalic red, it could be built in 3 months time, but if you want a silver one with xenons and a sunroof, you could have it by the month is out as that is spare and allocated to the Uk earlier.

I had this problem with My Fabia Elegance, I wanted it in black with a black interior, and the only UK model with that spec was not being built until the January (It was in early september), but if I wanted stone grey with the black interior it was being built next month and I could have had it in early November.

It needs to be improved IMO, but until they do were all stuck with it.

... and if you want a detachable towbar that's now a factory fit option too, so you can kiss goodbye to getting a car within six months.....

Still, trade in price on my Superb is set, so the only real loser is the dealer I suppose.

i got my octy vrs in two weeks with xanons, parking s, esp, cruise in black!! and that was from first order!

I found out from my dealer, & IIRC beleive that this is a VAG process, they mix certian colours of paints, then do a run with various "options", If you get YOUR specific order in, close to the colour run, then it gets added to the run, and an option planned drops out of that colour.

So you have to be lucky if your specific requirements are close to a scheduled run.

It makes sense really, specially as the time taken to retool for each colour must be quite long,( I know most car paints are now primarily water based, but there is still some oil in them )

Wot has been said above now makes sense, to what i've been told ( and experienced ).

I just went into the showroom and said 'I want that one' :D

Then walked outside, realised you'd ordered a 4x4 Estate in Dynamic blue and said...

"I don't like it....i want an RS" :D

The 3 month wait for my Furby with options sux - I could have probably bought the demo vehicle there and then, but that's life ;)

Options are required to be able to provide a good low entry price. Some people may not want xeons due to high cost of replacement bulbs (yep they shouldnt go, but they DO go sometimes...) and so forth.

Would I want to see near enough 2k added to the Furby vRS price to have SatNav as standard - no chance. I'd rather pay 200-300 quid and buy something I can move between the cars or walk around with ;)

Funny, I thought that Skoda had all this worked out by offering the vRS variant. vRS standing for "Very Richly Spec'd" no ?

Less toys than an Elegance though... :rubchin:

Noooooooooooooo...

My dealer always told me they dont do the big list of options so as to help keep costs down.

As for time to wait for a new build, I have no problem waiting 10/12 weeks for a new car at least you know it is new and not stuck in some field or on some dockside waiting to be sold.

You could end up like me and get the car with 17" Optional Alloys thrown in FOC

The system for ordering is also used by Ford its so there only stocking sold orders. dealers can place orders for what they know to be a good spec.say a silver Focus LX with alloys and air-con. But if they have a customer comes in and wants a yellow GLX with leather and other options they can up to certain point in the build programme amend the silver one they have "on order" and turn it into the Yellow one. They call it lean build.

Here endith the lesson. :)
