What a stupid Skoda Policy

Featured Replies

I've been in contact with Skoda customer services today to check if the dealer is right in what they have told me.

If you order a car and it's built, then delivered to the dealer, it has a 2 week deadline to get the car registered with the DVLA.

Why ??????

I've waited so long for the vRS and it's been put back and back and back again, I wanted the car delivering to my house, un-registered and sit it in my garage waiting for March 1st

( The ice might have cleared by then).

So it's OK for them to put the date back on numerous occasions but when I want to pay the balance off in full on delivery and not register it I can't do that.

This helpful Gemma gave me two options.

1) Cancel the order and re-order with another 20+ week wait and sort out the deposit with my dealer

2) Pray for more snow :giggle:

What a carry on, whatever happened to the customer being always right

Mine was at the dealer 6 weeks before it was registered on March 1st

It came 3 weeks earlier than expected..I wanted it on March 1st originally...so they agreed to hold it till then

I have had the same issue with Skoda. DVLA do not have any such 2 week deadline. This is a Skoda policy and one the customer can challenge. Good luck.

They are telling you bull**** we were waiting 3 months for the wife's Citroen DS3 and it came last week in July and they wanted to hand over on the 1st of August, we said we have waited so long and we go to France for two weeks so would pick car up 1st thing drop of at home and then leave it parked up for two weeks, can we wait till September and have a 60 plate, you can still have the part exchange on the same day. They said ok no problem. We were not desperate as we then only had 2 weeks to work and the wive could use mine for that period as I cycle to work .So they must be just trying to meet quotas

I had a similar response with the Octavia vRS I have on order, it's been put back from mid Jan to mid Feb so, I asked if it could be delayed until March 1st at which point I was told the same as you marcufordus but as I was happy with the deal that I got and, as long as the car is 2011 registered I'm not too bothered. Anyway who knows, with all the put backs it could end up being March :giggle:

Sounds like the dealer is after the Registration Bonus from Skoda, stick to your guns mate.

I thought that 2 week thing was if it was delivered before the end of 2010......something to do with the reduced VAT rate??

This is what it says on the 'Directgov' website:

"New vehicles

A 'brand new' vehicle can be driven to GB and registered as 'new' provided the vehicle:

is registered within two weeks of collection- this may be extended to one calendar month at peak periods, eg before 1 March and 1 September

only has reasonable delivery mileage - DVLA considers reasonable delivery mileage to mean the vehicle being driven from the pick up point to home using a direct route

hasn’t been previously permanently registered

has been stored before registration and is a current model or is a model that has ceased production within the last two years"

Seems to suggest it is a DVLA requirement to be registered within 2 weeks of delivery? However the last line mentions 'storage'... not sure if you could count this as at the dealer or indeed in your own garage?!

I think you should be able to delay registration for a couple of weeks if you want to, on the other hand it does make sense to try to prevent people (and criminals) buying a motor and driving it round completely unregistered....... :giggle:

This certainly applies to my Fabia vRS order as part of the special offer to have a vRS car ordered in 2010 and to be delivered in 2011 at pre-VAT increase prices.

I don't know if it applies to other models.

If the car was sitting at home in the garage unregistered, how would you insure it?

If the car was sitting at home in the garage unregistered, how would you insure it?

If the vehicle exists it can be insured.

You need the VIN number, that's all. Same car no matter what type of plate you have screwed to the front of it.

Unfortunately, to insure it for private or business use it has to have been registered and have a reg no. Without it, no insurance, the car does not exist, it's not registered at DVLA for the purpose of being driven on the road or stored in the garage, no tax disc but cannot do a SORN, again because it doesn't exist other than on a dealers stock list. That's different to a dealer insuring unregistered vehicles at a trade garage for storage during the two or 4 weeks allowed...if you see what I mean.

I've insured motorcycles when un-registered on their frame numer alone, so they will do it if asked. Have you ever known an insurance company not insure something thats a low risk and you want to pay them for the privilege.

Stored in a garage and not driven must be a quite a low risk ( unless you've seen the amount of snow on mine :D )

Eh.. You'll leave your car to sit on your drive for 2.5 months, I couldnt do that!! Suppose you ordered it early to miss the 2.5%VAT but is an '11' plate really worth that much to you??

I got my Boc on 29th of Jan last year and didask the dealers if they fancy keeping it for a month, they said no. I just went out and got a personal plate instead. Keeps the car looking ageless rather than new for 6months. It cost me £250 from DVLA.

A few points that seem confused:

1. The Skoda offer is not VAT free. Skoda will still have to pay VAT. It is just a price reduction equivalent to the vat at prevailing rate.

2. An insurance company will insure almost anything for a price. A car does not need to be registered to be insured. It is different if the vehicle is going to be used in any way.

3. The Direct Gov (DVLA) 2 week period for registration assumes it is going to be used/kept on public roads. If it is stored at the dealer, or even in the owners garage, it is neither being used or kept on public road.

My mother has just been to Skoda and the waiting list is until March, but she agreed that she will not take receive the car until the first making sure its a 11 Plate!

Yes 11 plate is worth that much when it comes to resale value in my view!

Just ask the dealer to store the car for you. They can do that no problem. The collection/delivery time limit is to do with people collectin their car from the factory or a dealer on the continent and then wanting to register it as new in the UK.

It is not delivery to the dealer. The car can sit unregistered at the dealer forever. There is a guy on here with an 09 registered Fabia vRS SE that sat at the dealer for 18 months before being registered, so the dealer is sort of telling you the truth - you can't take it home and park it up, but you can put down a hefty deposit and leave it at the dealers.

The reason DVLA put the change in March is so people don’t stop buying cars at the end of the year so they can get the new plate. I guess it doesn't really work.

My old car was a 54 plate registered in 2005. Did it bother me it was a 54..? No all I cared about was the condition and milage as will any 2nd hand buyer with sense. It still has the same warranty length.

If anything these days all potential buyers look at is the mileage on the vehicle. I was selling my Bocanegra last month. To spec it new from Seat it would cost £19.5k with all my options as well as £1800 worth of Revo and Coilovers and Rear Anti Roll bar. I had a few potential buyers but the guy pulled out and went for a completely stock car with a 59 plate (rather than custom plate) with 4k less miles for £500 less. I asked him why he did that and said it was down to the milage. A month later and his engine has gone pop (he'd got one of the infamous TSi's which doesn't make it past 7k miles - more common than you'd think) instead of going for a car with a good history of being looked after and mostly motorway miles, a strong engine with zero oil use and every desirable mod and optional extra.. Go figure.. Mileage :giggle:

Moral of the story, don’t drive your car so the next buyer can get a steal.. Sod off!!

I took the car off the market after that. I'll keep it some other way while I’m abroad, I love it too much!

B)

We are talking brand new here and a later plate even if it is registered 2 weeks later and on a newer plate will be worth 250 more , fact

£250 more in 2 years? doubt it. If you were to then sell it privately.. At the moment with 0 miles on possibly as there are non on the 2nd hand market. If you drive it I doubt it. As you aren't a dealer you'd have to drop the price.

Update today from the SUK.

It must be registered within two weeks of delivery to the dealer if the car has been ordered.

Different story if it was bulk order for showroom display. WHY, I dont know

My guess, and it is just a guess is that import quota's cannot be altered for whatever quarter they are working to.Looks like the dealers have told me the truth :p

Baaaaaaaah..................

No 11 plate for me then, unless the boat sinks if it hits an iceberg off Grimsby

a work mate bought a tayota ayaka on the 29 august (10plate) got 1200 pounds off if reg before the 1 sept wil skoda do this!!!!!!!! do not think so.

If the car was ready now I'd just get on and drive it.... sod waiting all those months for the plate change!!

Most people sell to a dealer, Most cars sold privately are at the cheaper end of the market , and a dealer will still give you £250 less on an older plate at 2 years, my mate is a dealer
