HILL HOLDER CLUTCH (Yeti) (UK)

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of buying a Yeti 2.0TDi SE 2WD with HHC but only if / can anyone tell me if -

Does it work with reverse gear engaged??

Where I park, I have to drive up an awkward sharp ramp, and over the public footway onto a rat-run road.

I often need to reverse, so if this HHC will DEFINITELY work, or definitely NOT work, I'd be grateful for the info !

As far as I'm aware it holds the brake regardless of direction.

Mike

Hi and welcome,

yes HHC will hold the brakes for 2-3 seconds while you balance the clutch, when moving off forward or reversing up hill.

Regards,

TP

The uphill-start off-assist is active in the event of a 3 % slope, if the vehicle door is

closed. It is always active on slopes when in forward or reverse start off. When driving

downhill, it is inactive.

Quote from the Owners Manual

I was not sure if the system operated in reverse with the car effectively pointing downhill. Must try it.

It works in either direction when setting off uphill. I'm pretty sure it also works in neutral*, and downhill*, despite what it says in the manual. How the car knows which direction you are about to drive I dont know (until you have selected a gear) - which surely is the whole point of Hill Hold.

Of course, if all else fails, they have very thoughtfully given you a handbrake, which also works! :giggle:

* Sudden thought, it may only work downhill and/or neutral when the off-road button is selected!

I love this Hill Hold Control. The DSG is like a 'proper' automatic nowemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

If you are downhill and you put it in reverse it will not hold, only in uphill it will hold the brakes.

One thing I would say is that it is not a hill holder clutch. I used to have one of those on my Impreza: it would hold the car stationary for as long as the clutch pedal was depressed. The Yeti's system just holds the brakes for a few seconds then lets go.

It's still handy though.

It is very handy. My car was with Allams for 2 days to get the towbar fitted and I had a 70hp three cylinder Fabia courtesy car. A manual of course. [Promise I only twice stalled it by not going for the clutch as I came up to a stop!] But anyway, it does not have this hill hold feature and it was then that I realised how neat it is and that even on a manual Yeti it must be very nice to have.

Does anyone have a 1.8TSi SE? If so, does the Off Road button include an element of Hill hold as the brochure says?

Clearly says in the description of the Off Road button at the start that amongst other things, it will hold your car on a hill as you start off, yet it's apparently not on my model...

Another bare faced lie from the Skoda brochure no doubt...

Mines an Elegance but I do have that function included. It automatically applies the brakes to hold you when it detects you are on a gradient. :)

You could argue that it is bad practice to reverse out of a driveway onto a busy road.

The highway code certainly suggests so.

I can only presume that you have to park face in to get to stuff into/out of the boot?
