Oil Warning Light

Featured Replies

Was driving the Mrs vRS home today and the Oil warning light came on. Topped up the oil and all was fine. Did some shopping and set off again and the light came on. The oil level was fine but the car started sounding rather like a tractor so got towed by the RAC just incase. Any one have any ideas, I read on here about the oil feed becoming clogged wondered if this would sound right?? Cheers guys and dolls.

Yep blocked oil pick up strainer.

Yep blocked oil pick up strainer.

Dont drive it, new oil pump, strainer, new oil and filter.

see how it drives then. you could have blown your turbo.

yep do not drive it anymore until you have fixed the blockage or pump issue

the problem you have is it sounds like a tractor you may have driven it to far with no oil pressure wich at worst may have buggerd the engine up or buggerd the turbo

this is why imo these oil pickups should be a service item and changed once a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they cost £9ish from dealer and take 45mins to change

It must be catching. Exactly the same thing happened to our Vrs yesterday. Got the car home on the back of a lorry this morning. Was guessing it would be the pump but it seems like it could be the strainer/feed. If it is the pump is it easy to replace? Thanks

yes easy to replace hopefully you caught it quick enough or you will need a new engine

Make sure whoever strips the sump is very sparing with the sealant when rebuilding it because too much of that can block the strainer again.

Use the correct VAG sealant for this. It takes at least 30 minutes at 20degC before you can refill with oil - longer at lower temperatures.

And make sure they use a new o-ring when replacing the pickup

yep i try and leave for 45minutes before refilling it

Doing mine on saturday, think i am fairly confident on doing it now, ill leave the sealant at least an hour before i refill with oil, hopefully ill manage :-)

paul any issues just pm me buddy not an issue

and yes standard allen key with ball end

Cheers mate, thanks for the sound advice.

[The guy fixing looking at mine used to be a skoda dealer so am hopin he knows what he is doin!! it was run for about 2 miles at 40mph. The tractor noise wasnt as bad at higher revs when it came.
