Featured Replies

Quick question regarding the oil pick up, how much are these from the dealers? If anyone had a part number that would be good, thanks

they are £9 ish + £14 for the sump sealent

very cheap and something that should be changed once a year imo

i will get the part number in a minute i have one in the boot ready to change lol

Cheers mate that would be brilliant, i am going to order the pick up and sealant tomorrow, i take it they can only be ordered from the dealers? I have no idea if mine has been done before car has just hit 80k so i think i should change it for piece of mind don't want to ruin my engine.

it will be a stock item im sure

well worth doing imo just look at the other threads in the last months where people have fecked there engine for a £9 part!!!!!

easy job you will need a long allen key 5.5mm witht he ball end to do the 2 next to the gearbox wich you can get to with a socket

also while its out you can completly degunk the sump

s06a115251 suction pipe £8.01 trade prices £7.21

sn0282222 sealent ring for above £3.09 trade price £2.48

sd176404a2 sealent £16.74 trade price £13.40

I agree this is not a part people should overlook!! All well and good changing your oil regularly but if the oil can't flow your engine is going kaput :D

Well i just ordered the parts from my local dealer for the job and he was surprised that i was replacing the pick up as he said they never get blocked, so i told hime about the problems people have been having on here about blocked pick ups and he was very surprised at this. Anyway parts are ordered hope to tackle this on saturday

All the garages that I've asked for a quote to do this have been surprised. A few people have said that they may get blocked because if they have been replaced previously (quite a few VRS's have had new sumps) that they have used too much sealant, which has then caused the blockage. I'm planning on getting mine changed next year just to be safe.

Yeah i am planning using the minimum amount of sealant just to make sure, i do think though it should be made part of a interval service just because of the damage that it can casue to the engine, its not worth the risk all in all the parts i ordered came to 38quid, i would rather pay that than pay to get my engine replaced lol

Ah but its a good excuse to "Uprate" your engine should it go pop :giggle:
