Dilemma

Featured Replies

I've had my VRS for just over 3 years now (it's 4yrs old in Feb) - only done 23k (18k with me)...running sweet as a nut, apart from a wee grumble under braking from the o/s rear (any other niggles have been fixed). I've just fitted £600 of winter tyres & I am planning to take out the 2yr service plan before year end...HOWEVER and it's a BIG HOWEVER...

at the same time I am sorely tempted by the VAT free, 0% interest deals still available. I think the problem is that I know these deals are great, but for the first time (in as long as I can remember, I have a car I enjoy driving & it looks great - it's got quite a few extra's I'd miss - xenons, 18's etc - although I need to compare the spec on the new cars). I've never had the same make twice on the trot...and I've never had a car for this long, so that says something positive about my Skoda experience.

I was thinking I should get a 4x4 next time around due to location/potential work commute & the apparent inability of our transport chiefs to keep road clear or at least driveable! (hence the Scout/Yeti thoughts). The Yeti falls at the first hurdle due to price. With the VAT free the Scout looks VFM, but would I be disappointed after the VRS (anyone gone VRS petrol to Scout?) The new VRS looks fab...a Race Blue Petrol Estate would be my first choice VRS I think. (same colour as my current petrol hatch)

I've done a few quotes on DTD & even with a few extra's - multifunction wheel, maxidot, curtain airbags (they should be standard !) & spare wheel, the price still starts with a £17...which depending on the price I can get for my current car, might be do-able, especially with the interest free option. I'd be giving my local dealer the chance to match or get close to the price (will they even try?) & the long waiting times being quoted are not an issue for me, provided the price doesn't change. When I see the 2nd hand prices for newish Vrs's & Scouts, the new price looks a relative bargain.

I've a devil on one shoulder saying...just go for it & the angel on the other saying, do you really need to !? (she has a point !)

Maybe the sensible thing to do is wait & see what the next deal is in 2011, but can they really match/extend the VAT free I wonder?

Any thoughts & opinions?

I Had my Mk 1 Octy vRS for 8 years before i decided to swap, and that was down to it having done 96k miles, a clutch which by my reckoning would have started to go in the next 10k, new tyres needed all around, new brakes needed all around as per MOT notes, so really, just general wear and tear, but would have cost a bit to keep it going.

If it doesnt need much doing, I gotta be honest I would keep it, its not costing you anything, its low milage, and it will keep my Blue Octy vRS Estate in a class of its own...... :giggle:

Good luck with whatever you decide

Steve

i secound that KEEP IT

Keep it, and put in a new " car account " what you pay in monthly instalments.

That way you should be able to save for your next car, whilst still enjoying your current car.

the saying if it aint broke dont fix it!

I've changed cars to the same brand before normally upping spec/bigger more powerful but the only time I've not regret it is with skoda. Both the fabia and (to date) Octavia have been great (though the octavia has had 1 warrenty job and one pending).

I think mdk1 has a rather good idea

Ha ha - you guys must all be the 'angel(s)'...I think if I really wanted to change I'd have done it by now, which probably tells a story. I also failed to mention that I have an extended warranty which I bought in Feb (lasts until Feb 2012) The car still looks great, it's just the new style looks even sexier - LED's, lower grill etc...oops I am off again!

Suppose you are right, stick the cash away & when the time does come, hopefully some high spec cars bought during the current 'no vat' deal period will be available at decent prices...would prefer not to do new if poss, but it does seem such a good deal...see here I go again !

Maybe a visit to the dealer to buy the service plan will end in (financial) disaster after all ! Better prep the missus just in case. I bought this one when I only went out for a pizza (no honest !)

Decision made...Keeping the old faithful, discussion on potential trade in price (not guaranteed until long del dates being quoted) & the price of a new one (vat free...but that's all !) , made my mind up for me. So service plan bought & just need to stop looking for a while now !
