1.8 tsi performance

Featured Replies

Does someone know how much time a stock 1.8 tsi yeti needs for acceleration to 100 mph or for acceleration from 62 - 100 mph? I tuned mine and I would like to compare the results I've got from gps to a stock one to see how much I have gained. BTW my yeti now needs just over 12 seconds to get from 62 to 100 mph.

Im guessing this will be aimed at our German menbers as they access to the Autobahns for those speeds. :smirk:

Why does an SUV need to go at 100mph? Unless you are a track-day fiend that speed is illegal on any British road!

Surely a more important acceleration time figure is that between about 45 and 60, which covers most overtaking manouvers?

Perhaps he needs to accelerate from the dawdling 62mph back up his 100mph crusing speed every time he's blocked by slow drivers on his trips through Germany!

I would agree that the accelerate time from something like 45mph to 70mph would be useful to know when deciding which models make it feasible to overtake on A roads.

The 1.8 Yeti is a tempting model from its performance point-of-view. It's just a shame Skoda won't build them with DSGs....

I would be interested to know if these tuned models have improved MPG or whether it's a high performance modification...

...I still reckon lightening the vehicle is the safer and more reliable option that will also yield lower fuel bills...

Hmmm. Might need "lowered suspension" to 'improve' on these figures........ ;)

And perhaps jettisoning the rear seats to lessen the weight, as well as getting the driver to go on a diet!

And half a pund o' lead in yer right wellie boot, too. :o

Hmmmmmmm. :S

Why do they make X6m BMWs? Why do they make V12 Q7s or v10 Tuaregs? Everyone has its own desires or needs and everyone is not happy with a 140 diesel...Luckily we have a higher speed limit over here. Also % wise I think the difference between stock and chipped car should be the same going from 60-100 mph or going from 40-80 mph. I am just currious how much faster tha car is know and I did not have the chance to measure it before.

As I am unable to tell where you are since you don't state it in your details or in the original posting, I had to guess you were in the UK. Being as this is an international forum perhaps providing that information might be useful.

As I said, to me the 45 to 60 time would be more important.

The fact its an SUV or crossover vehicle is irrelevant really. The Yeti is actually very effective indeed at sitting at 120mph in terms of noise levels and stability.

Last month in Germany we followed our friends to Engelburg in Switzerland and throughout the Autobahns, he clearly had more 'oomph' at the top end but I was running on Winters and wouldnt go any faster. HOwever I was surprised how little there was in it getting up to 'fair' speeds. He had a new 330D touring.

1.2tsi DSG + donor wrecked 1.8tsi engine = yeti 1.8tsi DSG

Same gearbox (7 speed) is used on the octavias and it works great, i even drove a ABT mapped one (220bhp) and it runs like a swiss watch.... only faster.

220bhp in a 1.8TSi 4x4 Yeti must be really fun. :thumbup::D

Hmm- real world driving for most people involves driving at 80-85 on dual carriageways and 70 ish on A roads. I know that, the police know that and in safe conditions it is the norm.I ceratinly find that the acceleration of my current Tiguan is lethargic compared to the 140TDI Golf it replaced and one of the Yeti plus points is a better power to weight ratio. No intention of trackdaying my Yeti but making brisk- and safe - progress is very important to me. And I suspect many others.

So what mods have you had done ?

A bit more than a K&N filter I'm guessing...?

 Absolutely agree.

I wanted to compare my economy on a run ooop Norf on Saturday so I set the cruise to 70mph and sat in the inside lane for a chunk of the journey.

I dont think I overtook one thing as they were all going past me at higher speeds!

Not around here it doesn't!

I had it chipped by SKN. Just found a test in german Autobild...stock Yeti needs more than 16 seconds for acceleration 62 -100 mph which means that mine is now more than 4 seconds faster....as fast as bmw x1 23d...great

Do you have a dyno graph and torque figures out of interest?

Thanks

... but how do you think Beti will go now that she has some balls (and a few more bhp)?

My impression of "real world" driving is pootling from traffic light to traffic light with hundreds of others, all intent on pushing for a better place in the queue. My joy is coming west on the A55 from Manchester and seeing the road slowly clear of cars the nearer home I get. The only chip I want is from the local chippy with a bit of nicely fried cod.

80-85 on dual carriageways? Try the M6 around Birmingham.

Errr, quicker?

Let's just say I think Beti is pretty capable now on the acceleration front

So -nuff said!! We like our Yetiiiiii the way they are, not hunkered down on lo lo lo lo suspension, nor grind g along on 10 profile speedtyres, nor grunted up to 500bhp with humongous red brimble-brakes........

But each to his own, yes??

Good luck to all this Xmas, and the compliments of the season to you all. May we continue to cherish our yeti-mobiles, and the cameraderie of this site for a while to co .

I've just realised that probably one of the nearest bits of dual carriageway to me is not far from you George.....the bit going up onto Eppynt from the old motel. Don't think I'd try 85 up there!!

I have tried the M6 around Birmingham. It is ghastly. But here in camera free and relatively lightly trafficked N Yorks and Co Durham high averages are the norm. And on one of my early morning weekend runs to Silverstone or Cadwell averages of upper 60s- or higher- are no big deal.

Blow, Googlemap link won't work!!

Been saying this for ages.

a 1.8tsi Yeti + remap is basically a Golf R with more storage, Q car looks and a much cheaper pricetag.

You can even slap on a K04 turbo kit to bring it close to 300bhp with almost OEM feel.

I SOOO wish they make a DSG model and bring it out in Taiwan!!!!!!!
