sticky handbrake

Featured Replies

Hi any advice would be welcome! I have an octavia 56 plate mk1 with rear disc brakes, the near side rear wheel is getting hot-ish! will it be a sticky cable or something worse? I noticed that the car would not roll/ free wheel easily?

Strip rear brakes down and clean them out, my pads were seized in calipers when i first got mine and rubber had pull out from caliper that runs on piston so i ended up taking caliper to bits and cleaning that up aswell and putting it back together,

Its worked fine since

Cheers for that Volvomeg, I'm gonna give it a go tomoz.

Quick note, caliper piston needs to be wound back with tool

I might be the only one who experienced this, but this what I discovered.

My NSR also was binding, first time I took it apart, I couldn't wind the piston in as it felt like it had siezed. I gave it a squirt of brake cleaner, and a good drop of WD40, and put it all back together for a few days.

Stripped it out again, and found the piston would move, albeit with a lot of effort. It might be normal, but my previous car was a Mondeo, and the rear pistons wound in so smoothly compared with my Skoda.

Hope that helps.... good luck!
