Supported audio files

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'd like to purchase a Yeti with Sound System, Columbus navi and MDI for iPod.

There is still a critical doubt about it: may I play AIFF audio files? All the tracks in my iPod (at the moment, over 40GB) are in AIFF format - I do not wish to convert into compressed ones!!!

If the format works with your ipod, it will work in your car as well.

ONLY if you stream the music from your iPod via the 3,5mm Audio jack in the arm rest. If you were to move these files to an SD card or copy them to a CD I don't think they will work as these two formats can only be used for MP3 files AFAIK.

They will also play through the MDI port.

Ah yes! In Italy you can get MDI - which is a box you should DEFINATELY tick! We lot in the UK are not allowed such luxury. Grrr. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I have an Octavia with MDI that I use with a USB Hard Disk Drive.

If I was to choose again then I definitely wouldn't bother with MDI. If your music collection exists only on an ipod then fair enough but if you are transferring from CD then you pay £155 for the MDI plus £25 for the lead and then another £40 or whatever for the HDD. The same £200+ will buy an awful lot of 32Gb SD cards for the slot in the Bolero and they work just as well as the HDD and don't fill your glovebox with cables that get pulled out every time SWMBO wants a sweetie!

A big thank you to Mike and all the participants!!!

The AIFF format works perfectly with my iPod... but I have still some doubt. Look at this link, please:

The list in the last page (Supporting formats on external devices) shows compressed format only. What do you think of it?

I agree. I don't even believe the MDI is worthwhile for an iPod. The only advantages it offers over the 3.5mm aux jack are charging of the iPod and using the radio screen to navigate tracks. The problem with that is the the on screen display on the Colombus/ Bolero is so clunky and slow to respond that it makes trying to select tracks or albums or artists on the move positively dangerous.

Thanks, ola_h

you will forgive me if I insist (I am quite obsessive about sound quality  ).

The format works perfectly with my iPod, but ... are you really sure it will work with MDI?

My question arise from this document:
