mixed size tyres

Featured Replies

hi all, i've been looking for winter tyres for a trip to germany, my size is 205/45/16 which i couldn't find so i've gone for 205/50/16 however the idiot i bought them off sent me 2 50's and 2 55's, would this be vaguely safe/legal/sensible? thanks

The difference in size will probably upset the ABS. People on here have tried 205/55/16 before and found they rub at the back. I would be having words with whoever you got them from and get the 55s swapped for 50s.

I don't know if it is legal, (probably is OK). However the tyres will be larger than OEM, so your speedo will be wrong, but you get a bit more ground clearance.

I would imagine your ABS and ASR (Traction control) may object with different sized tyres on different axles.

Edit: See also above.

I agree with JulieD on this, not only does the law state all tyres must be of the same type and size but it will also lead to the handling being different, false ABS warnings and you travelling faster than the speedo says so risking your licence doubly. I'd be back to the supplier pronto and at least get the 55's swapped for 50's

tires must be same across each axel legally for insurance purposes etc......

however its been proved on here that 55 profile tires dont work on the fabia so i aswell would be swapping for 50's

...not only does the law state all tyres must be of the same type and size ...

I'd suggest that's only the law side to side - front wheels/tyres can be different to rear wheels/tyres. That's often the case with performance-oriented brands...
