Engine heat

Featured Replies

Hi to all

I have noticed that my SM takes a long time to warm up and have looked at different threads concerning this, but I got out of the car last night and the cooling fans were running but the temp gauge was only 3/4 up the scale oil temp about 70 and the tick over still at 1000 rpm this was with the air con turned off. It did the same this morning.

Has any body had the same thing.

Maybe, but surely then the DPF light would also have been lit on the dials?

No, Johann, it only lights up if YOU have to do anything. When it handles it all by itself, the light does not show.

Hi Johann,

the light only comes on if the DPF is unable to clean itself doing its own cleaning processes (excessive soot build up). Every so often when you pull up you may catch it out doing a regen; tell tale signs being high idle speed (around 1000rpm), funny smell, sense of heat coming from under the vehicle/engine bay and the cooling fan going bananas even after shut-down (about 3-5minutes).

Regards,

TP

Ah! I was expecting to see this light up when it was busy doing its business.

Have had my 110 bhp since end of october,it has done the same thing about four times.I think its because i have done a lot of short journeys.

As said before the light does not come on.

Light comes on when the DPF is 55% full. You then have 4 attempts at clearing the filter by driving the way instructed in the owners manual. Over 75% full and you have to see a workshop to start a forced regeneration.

Over 90% full, and the filter is supposed to be changed.

I work with these cars, and still haven't seen one CR engined car with the DPF light on. The system works very well! My car get's lot's of short trips, and i notice it regenerating from time to time, but still haven't had the DPF lamp light up. My car has done 18 000 km's now.

Thanks for the replys. My SM seems to be doing this every trip at the minute, a bit difficult to a get a good speed going at the minute due to state of the roads round here, but did manage to get the car up to temp after about and hour of driving. It was -14 here last night. I don't any any lights coming on.

Am I doing something wrong with my monster or is the just how it is this time of year.

Looks like it's going to get another test tomorrow as it chucking it down again with the White stuff.

Hi,

noticed this regen process much more in the wintry conditions last year, due as you suggest to driving slowly and the engine struggling to get to temperature. Would not be overly concerned as long as it keeps up with it's own regens and you do occasionally get an opportunity to stretch the engine a bit.
