clutch slipping

Featured Replies

A quesiton for the techies ...and Master Techs. ;)

Can a slipping clutch affect a cars economy?

Not mine...SWMBO's car needs new clutch as it judders badly when cold. She also get bad fuel economy so was just wondering if the 2 could be related.

TIA.

Yep a slipping clutch is not good as you are not getting the drive you are 'paying for' fuel wise. If the clutch is slipping whilst driving at a steady speed (or going up a hill) you are hurting the most though.

When I had a bad clutch on an older car I had, the engine would be spinning about 500 rpm faster when going up steep hills then it should based on the speedo reading.. Apart from the annoyance of the burning smell  it sure didnt help fuel consumption..

It sure can Adrian. It will be trying harder to go somewhere, thus using more fuel. Get it seen to asap mate. ;)

Thanks for the info guys.

Now if we still had the Yaris I would give Graeme a call.;)

Got a Mazda Peremacy now.....any suggestions as we don't want to pay too much.

Not sure mate. Have a look on the net or local rag for any Japanese car specialists. Main dealers are getting too expensive these days! You don't wanna know what we have upped our prices to this year!
