Tyre pressures dropping

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In the three weeks we've had the Octavia the tyre pressure warning system has set off a warning twice. They all seem to be losing a little bit of pressure slowly.

The temperature probably hasn't risen above -4C in this time so I'm wondering if it is related or if it could be the issues that have been reported in the LE register thread about the LE alloys.

Has anyone with a non-LE vRS experienced the same issue? Anyone any thoughts?

Cheers,

Dan

Well this post is a coincidence emoticon-0144-nod.gif

I've just got back in from the cold checking my tyre pressures

Mine are slightly lower, 27psi, than I had previously set them - 31psi. All 4 the same

However the trigger for me checking was the tyre pressure monitor started blinking at me on the way home last night.. I think this was caused by driving in snow and slush on the M1 giving slightly different wheel rotational speeds.

The temp was -4c

The pressure will vary slightly according to temperature, but it will not *continually* drop. If that is happening then you have a problem with the valve or tyre seating.

I have inflated to 2.1 bar at the front and 2.2 bar at the rear (as per the guidelines). They do all seem to drop over a week or two to about 2.0 bar. I haven't left them long enough to check if they will deflate further. Perhaps I need to over inflate initially and expect a little loss.

It sounds like I'm not the only one noticing this anyway. I shall be keeping an eye on them. Maybe I'm just being over cautious as this my first car with a tyre pressure monitor.

Ive just had the same thing on my Roomster. I recently had the front tyres replaced and all was well until yesterday. I was returning home from a quick trip to relatives 100miles away when the Tyre Pressure Monitor came on and stayed on. I went into the fisrt service station I came across and checked the tyres but they were OK, 2.2 front and 2.1 rear with 2 of us in the car. Today the light is still on, I've checked the pressures with my own pressure gauge and it reads the same as yesterday. Can this be a faulty sensor or does something need resetting after fitting new tyres?

I believe it will stay on until you reset it after topping the tyres up. In the Octavia, I have a button which looks like ( ! ) which you press and hold until it's cleared the warning light. This tells the system to store the current reading for use in future comparisons.

As said, for the Roomster issue mentioned you need to reset the system.

The snow, ice and problems with grip all have the potential to confuse the system, as it works on rotational info from each wheel sensor. So best to visually check tyres in this weather and be prepared to reset the system a fair few times! It's far from a perfect system....

Roomster, see P161 of the manual. PDF copy available here:

Basically with the ignition on hit the 'set' button down by the handbrake for more than 2 secs, until a confirmation is heard.

I'd go with 'cold weather' being the cause, particularly as all four wheels are affected the same.

Another factor might be that they are filled with 'air' as opposed to Nitrogen. Nitrogen filled tyres tend to hold their pressure better.

Thanks for that Wardy and all others. It worked! My handbook is a bit different and the info is there but not where you'd expect it to be!

P.S. Neither the tyre fitters nor the local Skoda Service Agent knew about this! :(
