flat battery advice

Featured Replies

HI

my octavia tdi estate y reg battery has gone flat! whats best way to start it? jump start it with jump leads or take battery and charge it? is it easy to take battery out and will it affect locking and immobiliser?

thanks

Chris

If you jumpstart it, you'll then have to head off on enough of a drive to put some juice back in or you may flatten it again on the next start. Charging it is good if you have the time, and the right charger - you can still lock your doors on the key, and it's not going anywhere without a battery anyway so don't worry about immobilisation :) May need to re-enter the battery code though.

I picked up a booster pack from Maplins for £25 last year when I was suffering from charging issues. It has a compressor and inspection lamp built in, and will power 2-3 jumpstarts from completely flat. Just needs to be charged from the mains socket overnight.

Depends on how/why the battery has gone flat really. If the battery is duff then there is no point in charging it. Jump it by all means if it has just run flat naturally, and then give it a good run to charge it up. It is easy to change the battery, just watch the fuse pack on top of the battery as this will need to be moved out of the way first.

EDIT Beat me to it!!
