I did suggest this compression wet and dry type test on my last entry, cheapest route for you to take at the moment.

saying you have been put off fabias because of the problems is abit unfair.

you bought the car knowing it needs works so you cant really complain about unforseen problems

dont get me wrong i feel sorry for you but the used car market is ruthless anyone will do anything to get rid of a shed.

morale is if something is cheap its cheap for a reason for the money you have thrown at it you could have bought a mint example maybe not yellow but a mint one none the less.

do a compression check if tht comes back as bas news. then there is three options,

trade in- fill it with oil sign up a new car and drive for the hills (quickly)

private sale- bit naughty tbh but a man gotta do what a mans gotta do (just make sure its no-one off briskoda) :giggle:

rebuild/new engine- neither will be cheap and you have got to factor in the cost of a rebuild/new engine to what money you already have tied up in the car,

doesnt really solve any issues but gives you a rough idea of what id do given the current situation

I brought it for 3900. Expecting the MOT, tax and steering rack to be replaced.

I guess i havent lost faith in the fabia... but more in the sellers! Just my luck i guess.

Compression test booked in for tomoz morning

So, i turn up at the garage today... the matey takes my keys get the car into the garage and comes back to me...

"Sorry Mr Lovelock, we cant do the tests on diesels, i didnt think to ask what your car was when you booked it in."

Not happy lol.

Booked in a second time for regal on tuesday. Taking time to find this issue...

I would consider selling the engine i have with no ancilleries if you need it as you'll have everything anyway to just bolt on

how much you selling that engine for?

+1

And how much am i looking at for say someone like JKM to fit it?

I had the complete lump including gearbox, clocks & ECU with key fob for £1200

I have now been asked to sell the EGR cooler so i will strip the alternator, turbo, gearbox etc. off and sell the engine complete with injectors

Open to offers

Turbo is a KKK if that helps and engine code is BLT

you could probs get

£400 gearbox

£200 turbo

so theres half your money straight off

Okay sounds good :)

Well, matt, ill post here the results from the compression test and what not tomorrow.

Fingers crossed haha.

I thought £1200 for everything was a good price seen as though other sellers have just the engine at £1000 on Ebay

Id rather sell the matched lump together but you have all these parts anyway from your engine so its just a swap over

Im sure theres someone close to you with a good mechanical knowledge that would help you fit the engine over a few weekends for some beer tokens

Thats what forums are all about

So regal rang and said they will need to keep the car over night...

Said they checked the boost pipes etc and no sign of oil...

Doing compression and leak down tomoz...

Looks like it will be the oil control rings :/
