why is my EML on again?

Featured Replies

My EML was on on my 03 VRS Octavia. I had it reset using a SnapOn computer at a garage - it threw up two codes - P1296 - coolant temperature sensor and P1602 low voltage to terminal 30.

I replaced the coolant temperature sensor last week, and disconnected the battery, so figured that was why the EML was on. I have no idea why it came on again this morning on the way home from work.

I have ordered the cable off ebay to read and clear codes - but i cant be doing with havin g to do it weekly.

Any ideas why it's throwing codes up all the time?? The battery is new, as is the coolant temp sensor.

Suggestions welcome - otherwise the bulb will be coming out of the EML!!!

There are 2 coolant temperature sensors, maybe you changed the good one.

Forgive my igonorance - but where are they?? I changed the one on the right of the block with a genuine part last week. I dodnt know there was a second one- i will change it if you can tell me where it is!!!

I did the same, disconnected the battery and all ok for a week then "bing" but ended up taking it to a mate at VW, he reset it and its has been fine, however i had to change the air mass meter, my ASR light was on as well. But i did also have both the faults you mention.

So either have it reset properly or might be an air mass meter (but i am not a mechanic)

Neighbour has a sealey OBD thing - code reset - see how long this time. On the plus side - my cable for RossTech arrived so once i figure it out and can work it, i can reset it myself. Now i just need to know where the second coolant temp sensor is to replace it as a precaution

It may be an idea to check the battery charging rate, also the main cable from the alternator to the battery has a habit of overheating and melting the fusebox. This may account for the terminal 30 fault.

No second coolant temperature as far as I'm aware, the one that you replaced should have four pins, 2 for the gauge and 2 for the ECU.

No bulb for the EML, it's a surface mount LED on a printed circuit board, I've been told that a bit of black tape on the underside of the graphic will be sufficient to blank it out.

Yet again the bloody light is on. Reset it on xmas eve following the coolant temp sensor fault, this morning driving home it came on again. Shall be getting it read on my neighbour's code reader again, but bet it's the same fault. (Every time its had this fault). What else can I change or look at for this fault code?? Getting fed up now, having had the code reset/cleared 5 times in a month.

Code read again and is same fault - anyone give me any clues what to change this time??

The coolant temp sensor...(green one). Where did you purchase it as it could still be at fault or the wiring to it.

Bought it from the VW garage after giving him the part number. Seems to be bringing this fault up repeatedly for some reason. Normally i get 2 days or so with no EML on, then mid-journey it comes on again.

just an idea my temp sensor kept coming on and i noticed my temp gauge went to normal then the next time i'd look it was back at bottom like id just started. then 1 day temp sensor came on and oil light came on. so i changed oil level sensor myself for 45 pound for part and everything was grand. dont know why the oil level sensor sorted it but i followed the haynes manual and it worked. hope this helps... ps if you google oil level sensor its a common fault.
