Antenna gone

Featured Replies

Ok, so...my Estate has no visible antenna. Dealer said that the antenna is now integrated in the window-base or somewhat?

Looks a bit sleeker imo, (haven't taken any pictures yet tho.)

Anyway.. reception seems good; so let's just hope it's not like the iPhone (press HERE to loose all signal)

Oh, and as per previous threads: the MDI connector is still located inside the jumbo-box, NOT in the glove-compartment (thank gawd)

Other changes that should be noted here; that people's found out?

There is no Aerial on any Superb Estate - inc 2010 models (here in the UK anyway...)

Wish my MDI was in the GloveBox - i cant fit my iPad (which works well with MDI!) in the jumbo-box!

no, i mean no antenna at all. the 2010 has the sharkfin antenna. (it's not ariel but still an antenna)

edit: I'll see if I can take a picture of it during the day (no promises tho')

as for the Ipad-in-the-jumbo-box that is a luxury problem ;-)

An antenna, correct name (or aerial) is a transducer that transmits or receives electromagnetic waves.

The radio antenna is incorporated in the rear side windows, it has been since the Estate was first produced and is documented.

EDIT

This is what I mean: the sharkfin is gone, replaced by a small small thing; that really isn't noticeable when you see it from a normal angle.

Weird..i got a MY 2011 and i have the sharkfin. Must have been a change within the MY in that case. Or can it be depending on options in the car?

I don't know exactly when they changed it. mine was the first car my dealer got in without the sharkfin (and I picked it up yesterday) it was produced week 48, so proably around that time?

looked at your new photos. migh be a new version of antenna maybe. if they've removed it its weird they didnt remove the hole its supposed to sit in.

I'm 99% certain you will find the 'shark fin' is only used for GPS signals for the sat nav, obviously if have a vehicle without sat nav fitted in the factory then there will be no 'shark fin' my car is MY11 (1 week old) but in the UK sat nav is std on the Elegance so it has the 'shark fin' aerial.

You're probably right Giz..

sadly, the SWING radio is standard in Norway, no matter what model. -everything else costs extra

I ordered without satnav (they wanted friggin' 1500£ extra atop the price of a bolero unit..... a GPS isn't worth that much imo)

Then again if that's the case, then I would assume you would get low reception if you install an after-market GPS-unit :-/

sooo.. sorry about the word "old" in the picture :S

I don't have GPS, but do have a bluetooth module - I have the Shark fin. The radio aerial is integrated into the heated rear windows.

The shark fin probably handles GPS and/or GSM signals.

The radio aerials are the diversity type on the rear side windows. I had the same on my Octavia L&K

Yes, sharkfin handles Bluetooth and GPS, so if you have the phone kit and/or satnav then you will have a sharkfin. It does look like all they have done is put a grommet in the hole where this should be fitted, suprised they dont have a roof panel with the hole removed.

Perhaps its so the shark fin can be retro-fitted?

TBH that grommet looks bloody awful. I would fit a shark fin antenna even if it's not connected to anything.

Almost looks like the result of a misbuild or general **** up at the factory, I can't believe a plastic grommet in a hole in the roof is Skoda's idea of a permanent solution to something.

I have a 5 Week old standard SE, No Bluetooth or Satnav, I have a Shark Fin, So what is mine for, I am glad they fitted it as it does look good, Shiny Black fin on a white car.

Maybe its a UK-centric thing? Maybe all UK Superbs come with a shark fin? Can anyone with a UK spec S model confirm this?

Either way, the gloss black antenna looks great, far better than the cheapo effort that Vauxhall uses.
