What to do next :(

Featured Replies

Have resealed my door carriers numerous times and recently removed everything from the car to dry out the carpets and remove the wet insulation underneath. Had a look today and there is still water sat on the rear sills and where the rubber seal is next to it, water is still getting in to the footwell. Any ideas how? really had enough with it at the moment :(

Make a drain hole

Roof and gutter sealant mate. Slap that **** on like no tomorrow....

just a suggestion

it may be that the rear wash pipe connecter has split, mine has done it twice in sub zero weather. when you go to squirt the water runs down the plastic trim at and into the rear passenger footwell

the connector may have popped apart behind the trim that runs down from the C-pillar/speaker mount on the inside of the rear passenger side door frame.

Dead easy to remove.. no annoying metal clips like else where... (Yes, i'm in your boot, looking at the rear light boot inner trim, its behind there.).

Rivets? Some have had issues with water leaking past the rivets as well as past the seal. Also read of people adding self tapping screws along the bottom of the joint to tighten it up.

it can't be sealed properly. My passengers side took 2 attempts. apply sealent liberally

Hello,i had the same problem with mine, the carrier was no where near the door skin at the bottom so it was spring away from the door skin.I got a tube of gutter seal from b and q and drilled and self taped along the bottom edge.Hopeful i think its done the job as it was about 3 months and we still dry, hope that helps.

thanks for the suggestions guys, gonna have another look at the whole job tomorrow :)

will keep you informed about the on going nightmare :( cheers

try squeezing the carrier, this will force the water out through any holes. Either that or run your finger along until you find a wet/damp patch. I had a hole the size of a pin pr1ck in mine which was still causing condensation.

Good luck!

Sorry to sound stupid bezzy but how do u squeeze the carrier. All iv done 'so' far is seal around the bottom of where the metal silver bit meets the actual door, would this be correct, what else have u done my friend? Cheers

as in hand on the outside of the door, hand on the inside of the door and push towards each other to press water out of the current seal. run halfway up the carriers with the sealent too. check the gap at the bottom and re-run over it with more sealent. if this doesn't work look at putting some self tappers along the bottom to squeese the carrier into the door a bit more

I did the door carriers on my sister in laws Fabia a few months ago, both rear doors had already been sealed. I ran a hosepipe over the glass of the doors to check them and they were OK.

I then removed the front door cards and ran the hose over the front door glass and the drivers side was leaking. I sealed both the front doors and now the car is OK.

If your carriers are bolted in then loosen the all except the top edge ones. Run the sealant gun around the carrier and then tighten the bolts back up. That way you get sealant between the carrier and the door frame. You also should be sealing from about 2/3rds up the sides of the door, not just the bottom edge.

That'd be the one  Be warned that by doing this you could damage the work you've already done though. Only do it if you know its that door leaking for sure! It shows up any weak spots, and thats how I found the hole in mine. As has been previously mentioned, make sure all rivets (not sure about bolts) are sealed as well, as these can leak... didn't on mine, but they've been sealed just in case.

I have sealed all the way up on side of the door and nearly to the top on the other bits. Gonna try the hose pipe on it when I get chance.

I'm quite annoyed at how skoda know about this problem and did nothing through the whole time they were sold. I'm equally annoyed at the lack of response from the skoda sponsors on here after asking twice for assistance and getting no replies. It's a shame because it's the only problem iv had with the car but it starting to annoy me a lot now, just want it sorting

It was the same for me, but once its sealed its a fantastic feeling! I hope you get it sorted. Do you know which door is leaking? Give me a pm if you need anymore help. You should be using roof and gutter sealant, or something similar. Silicone is no good. Skoda sponsors did not respond to me either, and i was asking them to do the work for me! Oh well. I thought it was poor too.

Good luck.

Yup....Door card off or hinged away from the panel. Run a hosepipe on the outside of the window. You will soon see where the water is coming from.

I agree on the sh!te design. I bought mine a few months back, it is a 2006 model. What makes me angry is that previous owners obviously were too stupid too realise the car was being soaked inside over the past four years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or they did not care....

Madness :dull:

To be fair I was maddened by the condensation/freezing in my car last winter, and I didn't know the cause of the problem. I only found out through being on here and reading up about things. Thanks Briskoda  It's been a long time to wait, but I have a dry car now!

Yer my mood has changed slightly since i slatted the door design and the sponsors. I still feel the same but its the new years so im in a good mood. After numerous times sealing the door on many different occasions over the past years to no avail, im taking it all off tomorrow and starting again using tips from this thread and some better materials lol :) i did however find two holes drilled on the underside of the door, but not where the dranage holes are, but allowing water directly into the door card, so thanks alot previous owner for ruining my door cards and giving me more work lol :( i sealed those holes and then added more dranage ones to the correct place so thats a start. This whole saga has dragged on for around a year now and i think i can finally see the end ( not there yet but soon will be)

So Cheers for all the help off here guys, makes things alot easier when someone has done it before and knows different angles on doing a certain job. Much appriciated.

Happy New Year, Elliott

It's a good feeling when you know you've got it sealed though mate! It's well worth all the heartache! Try and clear any old products used on the door before you re-seal them. That was the longest part of doing it when I did mine, as the silicone was a right pain to get off!

Anyway, let us know how you get on

Good luck :)

Also remember to seal all the rivets...
