VAT free car sales con.

Featured Replies

Correct me if I'm wrong, more the way it's being worded than aything else, but the headline from many manufacturers now is,

YOU PAY NO VAT

Read the small print however, and you'll see that all they are doing is rteducing the already excessive MRRP by 17.5, soon to be 20% off the price before VAT, and then simply whack the VAT back on, as they actually have to do, as you cannot buy a new car or any other goods that attract it without actually having to pay it.

I dare say some overly excited sheeples are falling for this sales ploy and not actually reading the small print.

Just cut the sales spiel crap VAG and others, and just tell it how it REALLY is please.

I thought it was quite good. You still get 17.5% of the list prce, which is noticably more than you can usually haggle on full list prices.

Makes the Octavia and Fabia good value compared to other vehicles.

If you are a private buyer what's the difference?

17.5% off and NO VAT is the same saving.

It's the final cost to purchase that matters.

Baa, baa.

Yea, I'm not griping about the discount, that's not the issue, it's the way it's worded, as usual, to make you think you are getting something that you aren't.

Much more honest if they simply said, 20% OFF full retail price before VAT, but I suppose that wouldn't sound as a attractive then would it?

Think of it along the advertising lines of ' Up to 10Meg Broadband ' & ' Unlimited texts ' But at least with this its is 17.5% off price ( including options)

I'm a bit of a cynic regarding any advertising. Too good to be true means it is, always.

Straight forward and simple with no hiding behind glossy headlines is how I like it.

Stuff like this YOU PAY NO VAT really annoys me, as its headline is actually a blatant lie, their arse's only covered from prosecution by the tiny and mainly unread small print contrardictory statement.

I'll never make it as an advertising guru.

they should just print all new brochures with 20% off the stupidly high retail price

happy nude year

I agree with Mr. Ree there are and always will be outrageous statements regarding discounts. All car purchases have VAT to be paid so it's a nonsense. I can't see Mr. Ree going to buy a sofa in DFS, their discounts prices have me in stiches.

Sales puff....................lots of things in adverts aren't what they seem, but if the end result is the same who really gives a sh@t
