Casting looks good to me!

I plan to dyno before and after and see what happens - found a local shop with a dyno who will do a run, leave the car on there while they/I change the manifold then do another run.

We'll see if I wasted my money on a bit of engine bling or not.

deffo shows no gains did before and after runs and lost 3 bhp lol

they do say that the abd has a really bad fuel optimisation due to the small stubby runner.

it is bling but will be good once you go bt lol

Hmm, so if you've already done tests there's not much point me doing the same thing :) Might as well just fit it myself.

Or is it even worth it? Tests on Vortex showed it flowing more than the standard one and more evenly distributed to each cylinder.

i think its just worth fitting it yourself as it looks ace imo

so no point doing a back to back run as it will cost you money when you can fit it yourself

vwvortex sent a load of mannifolds off to be tested and yes the abd flowed better but it was said the casting where terrible ( may not be anymore) internal and due to the stubby runners the fuel optimastion was bad

a standard manifold is good for 400bhp but i would deffo fit this as you cant beat the look of it imo

will find the thread for you

I split this into its own topic :)

Found a few threads on Vortex.

ABD guys said:

our runners are a bit shorter that stock, fatter at the plenum and taper down at the head. this creates a vortex and forces more air into the combustion chamber at a higher velocity. Good design, works well. Our plenum is approx. 30-35% larger in all the right places.

Seems to say it gives a little more torque but not much power

happy new year rob

p.s you made it look like i started a thread with an answer to you lol very confusing ha ha

did you read f them flow details i posted up about all the different mannifolds??

p.s have to say the casting looks 100x better than the one i had

p.s.s how much was it???

Happy new year to you too!

Yeah sorry about the confusing thing but it was a bit off topic for that thread and probably more useful to have in its own.

Where did you post the flow rates? Missed that.

i posted a link on the other thread and now i cant find it doh lol

looks good mate

Here is the original flow test (which Vortex Copied)

The whole point about these manifolds are that they will give better flow rates and even flow distribution on all 4 runners. I run an ABD intake mani and yes I did have to clean up the Internal casting and ports. The big plus is that for the money nothing comes near it. The only people I see bitching about these manifolds are the fat bloke down the pub said kids. emoticon-0149-no.gif

Rob

The ABD manifold has the most even flow over all the runners, it looks the best and price seals the deal, nuff said. Clean it up before you fit and it should be fine.

I love the look of these, shame they don't do a large port version!!

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but what does anyone know about the Ross Machine Racing or Dahlbak manifolds???

Cheers,

Steve

Steve

Do what I did and port out the ABD mani to match the large port head as there is plenty of meat in the runners. The best bit is it will not cost 1K to do.SNV81612.jpg

Then do a flow test then match the runners, thrust me it works. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Oooooh er!!!!

That sounds like a plan then.....

I've considered making my own, basing it on the twin plenum design of the Dahlbak and the WRC Octavia......but I really can't be ar$ed if I'm honest!!

How much and where from for these then? I know IP used to sell them?? Polished or ceramic coated?

Cheers!!!!

Steve

that dahlback racing one got a bad review...

as for the abd unit it faired well on test as des has said and by the looks of yours they may have changed the casting as yours looks very good

will be prfect for when you get that bigger turbo ;-)

If you compare it with the others its so much cheaper but is second on the small port list. i wonder how high it would be on the large port test if you did like des's im sure it would be pretty good.

some of the others are 1k + and flow worse lol

JUST GET IT FITTED THEY LOOK ACE

You lot really need to start doing your own work and stop listening to the crowd. It is the only way to stay ahead of the chasing pack.

Take the chance, try it out and break something if you must. It's the only way to learn something new. The Red Devil is made up of one off ideas like this.

I had a good lok around it inside and out yesterday and the casting looks pretty good to me. Will take more pics later :)

New injector seats are on their way to the local dealer from Singapore where they keep most of their parts! As soon as I get them I'll get it fitted :D

Do I need to use any sort of sealant of glue on the seats or do they just screw in?

put some ptfe tape on the threads that should be okay buddy

I would not put any tape on the plastic thread as been suggested, try some non-setting liquid gasket as the plastic injector seats are very brittle and will break at the thread if you force them home.

above option is a better option

i did however use ptfe tape on mine and didnt have an issue but it did make them tight to fit

I was considering making one like this........

But after seeing Des' manifold I'm tempted to get an ABD and port it myself then get it ceramic coated......

It's been at least 6 months since I last did anything to the car so it's about bl**dy time!!!!!!

You know you want to. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

BTW, where is the air intake on that red golf?

americans des they like to just have the turbo with no filter or intake attached ( mental imo but seems to be the in thing at the moment with there cars )

that one in the pic steve is the monster 007 i think.

The whole point about these manifolds are that they will give better flow rates and even flow distribution on all 4 runners.

Provided the OEM intake manifold meets the engines CFM requirements then changing it for an aftermarket manifold which is capable of even greater CFM flow rates will not on its own increase engine power, and can in some instances have an adverse effect on the engines torque curve/output.

The results of the tests comparing the flow rates of each runner of the ABD manifold might look impressive to some people......but it has to be rememberd the results measured water flow rates through the manifold and runners, and not boosted intake air.

Bill.
