New Red vRS

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

First of all I'd like to thank all of you for the advice I've seen on this forum, I have just become a registered member and this is my first post. I'm about to start a new job that means a 80 mile-a-day commute (Bicester to Slough) and was looking for a diesel car that would be fun to drive. After seeing some reviews the Furby vRS was at the top of my list, but after reading the posts here and taking one out for a test drive I was completely sold.

I was looking for a vRS quickly and my local dealer had a red one in stock with the options I wanted, since red was my first colour choice I think it was my destiny to buy one. After an agonising 12-day wait (I don't know how some of you can wait until March!) I picked it up last Saturday. In the last week I've done over 500 (gentle) miles, and I have not got out without a huge grin on my face. :D

First impressions: a bit noisy on a cold morning, but that doesn't bother me; classy build quality, so much car for the money; gets dirty very quickly, but I enjoyed giving cleaning it for the first time yesterday. A friend of mine (who drives an RX-8) was very impressed with it. He's looking to get rid of the RX-8 because of the running costs, and he is now seriously considering the vRS, which I don't think he would have done without having a go in one.

Just a few questions:

1. Can I use Autoglym wheel cleaner on the alloys, or is this a bit harsh?

2. My car has come with Continental SportContact 2 tyres. Are these standard now? I was expecting the Michelins.

3. Anything I can do to stop the car (especially the back) getting dirty so quickly?

1. Shouldnt see why not, just dont go mad with it.

2. Yup they changed them, bit softer but much better IMHO

3. Wash it more im afraid, the aerodynamic shape causes everything to be pulled up on the back, mine is a mid grey at the moment (should be black).

And welcome to Briskoda, I used to head from Northampton to Bicester everyday to go to work, not as far as your journey but the Fabia did make it a fun one :)

Some of the post on this forum seem to suggest that putting the PD160 intake from a cupra and the green panel filter reduce the amount of smoke (hence not as much soot onthe back). This will make the car breathe a little easier (will let you know next week when I pick mine up and change the pair). But if most of the muck is down to aerodynamics (my focus is always filthy due to the shape) than its just a chamois and a bucket that will do the job really. Gllad to hear your enjoting the drive cant wait till wed :D

Hi,

I just collected my new red vRS this week - you beat me to these questions :)

I used to use autoglym wheel cleaner on my megane coupe and corsa, and really rate the stuff - but did want to ask the question. Thanks for the answer Ross.

Following on from this - what do people use to keep the exhaust in top condition? I opted for the autoglym polish, but haven't had to clean it yet so I'm open to suggestions.

As for the back - all I can suggest is making sure the windscreen wash is constantly topped up. I'm a saddo for clean windows, and going back to a hatch from a coupe is really getting to me... damned dirty rear window! :thumbdwn:

The dirty backend and lack of stereo controls on the steering wheel are the only two things that are getting to me at the moment. Everything else is just great! :D

May i suggest Muck Off for cleaning wheels,IMHO it's less aggressive than Auto Glym.On the downside you use more .But if used regularly is very effective.

Autoglym wheel cleaner is awesome, as are all the Autoglym products, though the wheel cleaner is harsh, and over usage will eventually take the shine off the paint.

I have always used soap and water to clean my wheels. This is because I wax them, with Autoglym resin polish. The black dust wont stick to the polished surface, and is easily removed each time you wash the car.

Regards

Autosol for the exhaust, best metal polish ever.

Hope you're enjoying the red vRS as much as me vRS-Ric!! I haven't seen another red vRS on the road yet, most seem to be black, so it looks like we share some exclusivity.

I'd never thought about waxing the wheels, I might do that this afternoon, after a trip to Halfords for some Autosol.
