Electrical nightmares

Featured Replies

Right guys before I commence work on the car in the coming weeks I thought i check up here for where to start...

Problem 1.

This one is an easy one-Central locking on only 3 doors (no passenger front). I have checked for water ingress and no signs, I have changed the motor to no avail so am guessing its an electrical wiring issue.

Problem 2.

Erratic heater fans, sometimes they work sometimes they dont, issue can be solved by opening the passenger door and slamming it.

Problem 3.

Lights behind radio go on and off, this one just started yesterday but is bloody annoying.

Problem 4.

If I leave my lights on and leave the car the car no longer iforms me with the tell tale 'bong', the light is also doesnt come on sometimes.

Problem 5.

Radio stays on when car is turned off, lights also come on around radio and wont turn off, unless I restart the car and turn off a few times. This only happens occsionaly.

So far the knowledge on here has been spot on first time so who wants the prize of being the most helpful of 2011 :)

1 - check wiring between the car body and door.

4 - door switch on drivers side is not working, so the car does not know you have even opened the door hence no bong.

3+5, sounds like the radio is faulty so easiest option is to go aftermarket.

Thank you I'll get myself a new radio (awaits recommendations from people) an have a look at the wiring between the passenger door and the car. I will sculpt you an award out of faulty wiring and broken radio parts :)

No 5, My GF's did this the other week. The clock and light would stay on after the engine was switched off. So we disconnected and reconnected the battery and input the radio code and it worked fine after that. But i would only try that if you have the code for the radio

Should also point out it wasn't on a skoda it was a renault clio

Me too,

but it's the driver's lock that's not working. Damn these dark wet nights, I have to wait 'till the weekend to check the wiring inbetween the car and door. :(
