So after much deliberation me and the wife have decided which car to buy!

Nice vid btw, looked like fun. You need to do an in camera version next.

I’d have to get a set of tyres with a lot less grip first, but you might be surprised emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif Diff set to dynamic and traction nannies minimised, I think I might be able to act like a loon too :D mind you if I got it wrong, it would take a bit more run-off area than in an MX5

Besides I got a date from a guy who fancied my car (I don't think I fared quite as well), but I guess you must know this feeling too with having an MX5emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

IIRC theres other finmere vids knocking around of someone in a s4... yawn :p.

Ahh does this bloke have a full head of hair?...

If so does he need it styling? lol emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

Think next time we will put a cam pointing backwards too emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

At my age there aren't so many blokes with a full shilling, let alone a full head of hair. I wil let him know you would like to massage his follicles

You seemed to spend so much time going backwards, a steering wheel fitted in the boot might be a useful option emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

Well as the marshalls said.. if you dont spin you aint trying hard enough and it takes ambition to create talent emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

See, stock quattro can also

@Neo, you should fit a good LSD in that MX5. Than the drifting becomes even more fun. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Did such things in a good old Alfa 2000 Bertone Coupé with LSD (waaay back in the late 80's). Short wheelbase and good power of the 2 litre engine did the trick. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Some great stuff on here...

Sorry guy's maybe i am confused.....but i am looking at 2007/2008 A5's....

I gather the S-line did not come until 2009. Is there much difference between the sport package and the S-line???

Cant help you on the packages, as I dont know what packages were offered in GB.

In Germany on the A6 there are different S-line packages. Interior and exterior are separate.

I, for example, have the complete S-line interior but the car misses the exterior parts.

To the S-line interior are uprated brakes (bigger diameter) and a lowered suspension (by 30mm ---> rockhard)

Even after 7 months of ownership and a lot of reading through different forums, I still find new things you could

have ordered on a new car. The list is very long and the packages are somewhat confusing, because they overlap.

The A5 has the newer and more economic 240bhp version of the 3 litre from the start of the built on.

You need to check the engine revisions on MY07/08 cars as I'm not sure when the 240bhp motor can along. As said a bit earlier, you'll get better economy from that and would be the one I'd go for from a reliability and running point of view. I know someone who went from an MY07 A6 AllRoad 3.0TDI with the 233PS unit to an MY10 Sportback 3.0TDI and is getting 3-4mpg better economy over the same routes. I personally think that was the wrong move in car terms as the AllRoad was an awesome all-rounder for what he needed it for and I think the Sportback looks a bit poncy but maybe that's just me ;)

In reliability terms I would also question the early comment about 'bullet-proof'. I know of an MY07 2.7TDI coupe with the Tiptronic slushbox that's had a new gearbox and numerous dealer trips for 'software updates'. Plus the MY10 Sportback I mentioned was stopped in its tracks after 2 months when the waterpump failed...

It is not the tiptronic gearbox that suffers reliability, it is the fwd 2.7tdi combined with the multitronic gearbox. (CVT)

That gearbox is not too reliable.

AFAIK the A5 was never built with the 232 or 233 bhp version of the 3 litre.

It's a guy at work - all I know is that it wasn't a proper gearbox! ;) - we told him he shouldn't have bought an FWD with that engine and 'box combo.... :wonder:

True on the revision, A5 probably came along too late and got the middle revision?

Hi Mate....

I think the A5 came with the newer 240PS engine from the beginning. Seems as though every review i am looking at for 2007 mentions 240PS.

Defo going to avoid auto or tiptronic....looking for a proper "manual"

Drive them both before you buy. The manual isnt that "good". Because of the short 1 gear and the amount of torque you will have to get used to it.

The tiptronic box is OK. I wouldnt want a 3.0tdi with a manual gearbox.

Hmmmm.....food for thought...

I agree, if the first gear is too short....it will annoy me a fair bit..

I find the manual box fine. It feels better than my previous BMW and had a short positive throw, the only slight issue is that when it is very cold it feels a little rubbery. The short first gear does have the advantage of being brilliant as a crawler gear in heavy traffic and acts as a superb 'hill descent' controller when coming down snowy hills. I have read the latest DSg is great with this engine, but I was put off a bit my my Octy's DSG. It clunked a bit when coming to a stop.

It should be noted that the clutch pedal is offset though and it tales a little bit of time to get used to it (not that you have to change gear very often :D ).

I would also recommend you check out which seats the car has. I have the S Line seats and although they are better than the standard seats, I think they are designed for men with broad backs :( I rattle about in them and suspect you wife might too. The Sports seats though are fantastic :) if a little expensive when new :(

I'll be remapping it at some point also.....goes like **** of a shovel once this is done I'm told. No 335D.....but its adequate...

Will need that to keep up with Saxos :p
