Bluetooth problems

Featured Replies

I'm having problems getting my phone (a Samsung GT-B2100) to connect to the Yeti. It used to work fine, but then I got a new phone (another Samsung, but this time a GT-B2710) which kept dropping the connection, so I sent that one back and now the old phone is refusing to work the way it used to.

Previously, I would get the reassuring "bong" every time I turned the ignition on, all automatic and dead easy. Now, the phone pops up a message every time saying something like "Audio connect to YETI?" I have to press the "Yes" button before it will connect; if I don't do that then the phone times out after a while and the connection fails. Confusingly, when it does connect I only get the phone functions (going by the icons on the Maxidot), not the audio playback which doesn't work at all. (Previously I had managed to get audio playback working, but I wasn't at all sure how - see this thread.)

While fiddling around trying to get my old phone to work the way it used to I have noticed some issues with the phone setup menus on the Maxidot:

  1. You can't delete a phone from the list without having a phone (not necessarily the one you want to delete) connected - the option doesn't appear in the "User" menu.
  2. Similarly, without having a phone connected, the Bluetooth menu doesn't appear, so you can't turn on visibility for 30 seconds and let the phone find the car in order to get them paired up, rather than the other way round. This means that if you only have one phone then you can only pair it by letting the car find the phone. If your phone is picky about how it gets paired (which my Samsung seems to be) then you may never get it to work!

Both of these seem to be rather unecessary restrictions.

At least the issues I've found with the Yeti's bluetooth are with the user interface, not the bizarrely unpredictable behaviour of the technology behind it as seems to be the case with the phone!

Get a nokia or an iPhone.

I at one time made the mistake of buying a samsung phone, nicely built solid device but hopeless at doing any thing other than making calls.

Actually I have found out why the phone kept asking me to allow the Yeti to connect. There is an "Authorise" setting on the phone for each paired bluetooth device. Set that to yes and it now connects and disconnects automatically just like it used to. I must have set that before as well but forgotten about it. The audio streaming still isn't working but to be honest I'm not that fussed about it as I don't have much music on my phone beyond a few clips that I use as ringtones.

Ah yes, I remember those days when I had to authorise my old SE T610...

To audio stream you need to start playing on the phone first, but check it is all enabled in the maxidots BT settings first for audio...
