Siemens C35i mobile drops connection

Featured Replies

I have an ancient (9 years old) Siemens C35i mobile on PAYG O2 which since the new year won't connect anymore with other phones.

As far as I know its got credit on the account.

You can dial a number, but after 1 ring the line is disconnected and the phone turns off. People I am phoning report that their phone rings once and then stops.

I tried to ring 02 customer services today and the same happened.

Also, some time ago I got a message from O2 saying that the secure area in my phone had been reset to default values (I hadn't done anything).

Is this O2 subetly trying to tell me that I need a new phone ? Or has it been hacked by a third party.

I have the same phone sat in my desk drawer and used it for many years until a similar ting started occuring. One of the issues with them is a small Integrated Circuit inside that controls the voltage within the phone during calls (I think it basically controls how power is drawn from the battery). This is known to fail over time and the result of the failure is that the phone drops calls and powers down as it thinks the battery is flat or drains it very quickly.

Unfortunately there is no cheap cure as it involves dismatling and replacing the surface mount IC.

The answer is therefore a new phone unfortunately.

Is the fault intermittment. I'm now at home and have brought the phone into the warm house and its seems to be perfectly OK. Can make and receive calls on it.

Stop being tight and get a new phone ;)

As above the C35i fails in the way you've experienced. Eventually it will die completely. Aunt had same issues as well.

Nope it's permanent but I guess could be affected by temperature as most electrical equipment can be. A new PAYG handset will only be £20 or so for somethoing as basic as you currently have so go-on - splash ther cash!

Again, seems to be OK today, now I brought it into the house. It has got a low charge and I think that + cold reduced voltage slightly and triggered the shutdown.

If i'm being really anal I could leave it in the fridge overnight to test this proposition. :giggle:

I don't really want to spend out for a new one - my PAYGO usuage is pretty low, about £20 a year.

I lobbed loads of old phones in the bin the other day, one of them a C35i, if you posted before Christmas I could have sent it to you.

Have a look on mobiles.co.uk for cheap PAYG phones. I brought a cheap Nokia to take out running / cycling for £4.99 and it came with £5.00 credit. Total cost -1p.
