Hi everyone i've just bought a 2.0 tdi 140 to replace my outgoing 1.9 (due to the council and their age restrictions) :'(

The car was bought spares or repairs with reported engine or gearbox problems and has the dreaded BSS engine code.

On first investigation it seems to be the oil pump has failed and so the turbo is gone. i wondered if anyone knoes if these turbo units are

interchangeable with other VAG group cars and if so what would be the eqiuvalent codes.

Youcan try a new turbo but ive just stripped on down with the same, bust oil pump drive and the cam and head are also gone.

In your opinion tech1e...just how bad was the damage you saw in the engine concerned? And in your opinion, was the car you mentioned driven much further than it should of done in order to write off the engine?

The 2.0 140 tdi has 110k is a 57 reg and is a replacement for my 54 reg 1.9 which has 273k

i'm only changing cars because our nasty council intoduced an age limit stating our cars must be under 5 years old when tested. otherwhise i would be keeping my trusty 1.9 which is in fantastic condition and often recieves compliments from passengers on how it looks and drives.

swap the entire 2.0 unit for an old 1.9 unit? The one from your old car? is that feasible/affordable/worthwhile?
