Starter Motor Goosed!

Featured Replies

Car cut out on me the other day due to a blocked fuel filter so I changed it and as always, it takes ages to start whilst the fuel comes through. Before I could get it started, the starter gave up! I took the starter off and the braid between the solenoid and the starter had corroded and burnt out. Now this braid is part of the brushes and holder on the starter but I've having real trouble trying to find a replacement set to repair it.

Has anyone ever repaired a starter motor or do you just replace it regardless? It's a cheap car to get me to work and back as cheaply as possible so don't fancy spending £100+ on a replacement starter!

Just for info, new starters seem to cost from about £60 upwards.

I have recently bought one of these for my RS. It hasn't arrived yet after nearly 2 weeks, so if you need one urgently i would ring first to check stock.

For the hassle trying to service them and to find you may be back where you started after a few weeks/months, i decided to just get a new one and fit that.

Good luck, whatever route you take.

Starter arrived today. Seems all in good order and well packed. According to ParcelForce it was only desptached yesterday, so not sure why the seller said it was DHL. I guess DHL to the UK then Parcelforce for onward shipping from the depot.

Anyway, will hope to fit at weekend if the weather is good and will update after.
