Comparison of Service Costs at Dealers

Featured Replies

Just been looking to get my car serviced and did some calls to get some prices on a minor service.

This might be of help to people so here are what the various dealers were quoting in the Midlands area.

Banbury Oil change at £119 and Brake at £50. The department knew prices straight away. I did not check if this price included an inspection and I failed to check / clarify re Pollen filter.

Warwick / Leamington Oil change at £230 and Brake at £49.95. Pollen filter changed for £49.95. Took some time to get the price but they did phone me back and very courteous on the phone.

Milton Keynes Oil change at £245.99 and Brake at £58.20. Pollen filter changed for £44.06. Took a long time to get the price and multiple phone calls. I was phoned back several times, but chap I was talking to could not explain what was included on the Inspection as base Oil change was circa £100 and what do they inspect to be worth £145 more??

Coventry did not split down the price and I was quoted £280 all in, so if that did truly include the inspection, Oil, Brake and Pollen filter was the best price offered by the dealers. Also reading other reviews of Coventry it seems a good place to go.

In the end I went to Unit 18 and was really happy with the price and attention to detail. A small one man band but it did mean he gets my money directly and I got a cheaper price than those shown above.

Hope this is helpful to those looking at Servicing costs in these hard times....

Been checking prices myself recently.

First service scottish dealer £95, thinking not to bad. Nottingham £125? what's different? It's not like the Nottingham dealer is in some big flash show room. Will be phoning a couple more before I make a decision.

I don't understand why there's so much difference in prices from the same dealers.

Must add that I visit Scotland several times a year, so it's not out my way to go there.

I've just got my car back from a 40,000 mile service at my local VW place - It's also an authorised Skoda Service garage. For oil change (long life oil), brake fluid change, aircon check and recharge + pollen filter - total cost £305. They collected the car from home and brought it back 4 hours later, with a voucher for a free MOT and vouchers for 10% off any consumables I might buy. I've just posted on this site to ask if that's decent value for money.

How can thet charge that much? I used to do my own service on my fiesta. Just got fabia vrs with full history so i wanted to carry it on. But these prices putting me off, its around £30-40 for big bottle castrol at halfords and they a rip off anyway. Whats oil filter £30 max so they charging £60-70 for half hours work changing it?
