The vRS has landed

Bit of an update and a review of life so far with the vRS.

Over the last few weeks the vRS has justfied itself 10 times over carrying all kinds of site equipment around! In fact last week it managed to transport £50k worth of electrical measuring gear, which was huge and very heavy , at a steady 80 all the way down the M42 & M5 :D Didn't even feel like there was anything in the boot!

Performance is good and far more relaxed than the Leon. I'm really pleased with the DSG box and quite amazed at the freedom the box allows. Automatics I've driven in the past have changed up far to quickly for my liking but this seems to have been fitted with a DSG box from a petrol as the car will bounce off the limiter without any issues!?!!? (Not as nice a noise when it does though!)

Had an issue last week where a large piece of concrete managed to smash its way through the grill and cause over £1,200 worth of damage to the air filter, air con unit and radiator :'(

Happened on the M5 and at present I can't go into the fine details but needless to say my compnay won't be paying :punch: . Skoda Kidderminster came up with a new grill but If anyone can tell me how the hell you attach a vRS badge to a face lift grill I'd be very happy to hear. Thank God it missed my newly colour coded surround.

The car is booked in soon with Midland VW to have some Eibach Pro Kit springs fitted and a subtle rear spoiler (see page 1). I have have purchased some 15mm spacers to go with the springs which Midland VW can put on at the same time.

I also have it booked into a Bromsgrove based tinting company to have some 35% tints done to the rear and back window. The vRS is now debadged the rear completely now and whilst I have no vRS badge on the grill it really is a stealth motor! Just waiting for some decent weather so I can use my new Nilfisk C120 and Autobrite HD Snow Foam Lance

A final point on the vRS. Given the amount of motorway miles I do I have found it amusing the amount of cars that pull in behind me or go past at 0.1mph faster than me. Yesterday on the A42 south I managed to keep a line of at least 8 cars behind before I pulled off at Tamworth where most of them floored it past me then. Mind you, wearing me yellow site jacket probably adds to the confusion, oh and the camcorder I have setup in the rear window

More updates once the beast has been tinted and lowered.....

Is it a company car?

If not then why would they pay to repair the damage?

If it is I am amazed that they are happy for you to make all these mods!?

The damage was caused due a mistake by somebody. The car is a company car. Regards the mods, they are declared to the insurance and company. All original parts are kept and will be re fitted to the car prior to it's departure to an auction house, although I may keep the Octy for myself.

Camcorder in the window?

Wearing a fluorescent jacket whilst driving?

Please don't tell me you are deliberately trying to impersonate an unmarked police car?

I pass an old white Volvo V70 estate every morning on my way to work. With his dog guard and fluorescent jacket over the back seat I think he gets a kick out of fooling everyone.

What he doesn't see is every one in lane two slamming the anchors on at the last minute which then causes a tailback whilst everyone crawls past him doing 71mph.

Looks braw Moley, a lot of the mods you are doing to yours are ones I am planning on doing to mine when it arrives, like the tints, lowered, grille surround colour-coded, de-badged etc.

Regarding the spacers, are you putting them on all 4 wheels and are you getting longer bolts too?

Blimey mate, it was a joke

Gutted, shame you didn't get their details. I'm guessing ideally a £1200 repair would be best going through the insurance.

I had something similar happen to me years ago on my Ford Puma. The lorry I was following had half a brick stuck in between its two rear nearside tyres. I didn't notice until it dislodged itself and nestled itself nicely in my engine bay.

Luckily I was able to get its reg number and my insurance company did the rest.

I wish my company was as open minded as yours, I'm sure it makes your business mileage much more fun!

Just on the rear. Wheels tend to disappear into the arches at the back when lowered. The kit I brought came with longer bolts.

Ah ok. I'd appreciate a link or advice on where you got the kit and how much it cost!

Oh, and you need to change your Car details on the panel on the left of your posts - it still says Leon FR 2007.

Looking forward to seeing the pics of yours lowered, I am unsure whether to go for the Eibach springs or go for the Weitech coilovers like Rob.e has.

To be fair the biggest mod I'm doing is the lowering springs which are exactly the same springs as Skoda offered as an upgrade until recently. The company are fine with this and have no issue with sensible tinting due to some of the items I carry with me amd some of the dark dismal places I have to visit....

Re the DSG / CR combo....remaps are VERY available ......with regards to the suspension...I would very strongly recommend that you get the Koni FSD's fitted at the same time.....drop me a PM if you want to know more

Good stuff Moley - some nice and welcome additions to come then

Shame about the damage already though

Just a side note. Anyone managed to stick a vRS badge onto grill? Skoda have sent me a replacement grill and badge but with no means of attaching onto the grill. Not overly keen to glue it unless a glue can withstand the constant barrage of rain, hot and cold weather and pressure washing cleaning. Also doesn't help that the badge is only in contact with 20% of the grill over the 'fins'. The original badge appears melted onto the plastic grill.

Moley, just when you get a sec, any chance you can let me know where you bought the spacers kit for your rear axle and how much it cost (including part numbers if possible!)

Cheers

I've not had to do it, but I'd imagine some good quality super glue on each fin that has contact with the badge should hold it just fine

Many thanks Moley!

I had FSD's fitted along with the [skoda accessory] eibach springs and disliked them so much i took them off.

IbizaAlex now has my eibachs fitted up with stock dampers and he's very happy with that setup.

HTH.

+1 :):) And 15mm hubcentric spacers all round.

10mm hubcentric spacers are now very hard come by-all manufacturers seem to be having problems with them cracking around the centre.

Yep, 15mm is pretty much the lowest *reliable* size of hubcentrics you can get. Think the metal is too thin otherwise, hence the 10mm issue.

Think 15mm is just about perfect for spacing the rears out anyway, based on a 7.5" wheel.

Didn't realise that Rob. What was it that you didn't like about the setup?

Yep i had to have a new grill after 2 weeks of ownership after a 4x4 reversed into it. There are lines on the back of the badge which line up with the grill slats. I just used Bostik all purpose glue and its still on there! Jet washed everyweek and gets hammered up and down the motorway everyday.

My Race Blue vRS landed this morning. CR DSG, rear parking sensors, spare wheel and iPod connector. Looks gorgeous in the flesh but soon ripped the grill and lights off to fit some Ring Xenon bulbs and a colour coded grill.

Pics after my dinner.....cos I'm starving

Nice cars and even better mods!!!!:thumbup:

Can we get a pics of the ring xenon bulbs ..???please........

Also where did you get new head lamps from ......m looking for headlamps with xenon ballasts pre-fitted in them... Thanks!

Can we have some interior pics please mate
