Backlights

Featured Replies

Not to sure myself really but it makes people look at your car twice!!

It really does. I drove from Bristol to Bournemouth over the holidays to visit friends in a real pea souper.

Literally solid fog all the way there (80 odd miles) and I lost count of the amount of people who did a double take.

I have decide that tinting the backlights is a certain for me now, after seeing some great pictures in another thread.

My next question is to use film or to spray?

Film IMO. Not least because you can easily remove it should you want/need to

http://www.lamin-x.co.uk/ More expensive but IMO better looking up close and definitely more durable.

OR

http://www.flyeyeskit.co.uk/ Gives you a lot of product for your money and is very easy to apply.

I've used both and prefer the lamin X personally but is is pretty pricey and you need to measure

whatever you want to tint carefully as it's a waste of money buying more than you need.

HTH.

Forget this tinting business, RED is where its at...

does this not make the reverse lights red and thus rendering them illegal?

Thanks Ryan,

It's a Blueflame cat back. And the badges are engine cover badges part number 1Z0 103 940 D

approx £8 each from the stealer. They did need a bit of fettling to get them to fit. They are stuck on

with high quality double sided foam tape. The hardest part was making them fit the curved apertures.

I used the radiator in my kitchen to warm them up and then carefully bent them to fit to curve.

They are very slightly smaller in diameter to the "proper" badges approx 5mm difference.

You copying me son, with the Black badges?

Bye the way everyone, Gary is the chief Briskoda lighting consultant. He has toooo much time on his hands.

In reality, you don't have reversing lights anymore, just more red lights. Good luck on the next MOT.

why will he need luck on the next MOT reverse lights arent part of the test.

we check them at work for the simple reason that you do all the other lights might aswell check the front fogs and reverse while your there for the extra 10secs or so it takes

Reverse Lights are not part of the MOT

Reverse Lights are not part of the MOT

I'll let him off then

Bit if they are fitted as a standard specification (like on ALL cars) but dont show to be white then they will fail the mot. By law a vehicle must have at least 1 reverse lamp that is working. In this instance a reverse lamp isnt red so will fail.

your missing the point though

reverse lights are not part of the MOT test

therefore weather they are working or not if there not tested then they cant fail :giggle:

i dont want to poke at this but i think they might be right tbh.

reverse lights not part of MOT so wont fail however this does not mean the police or VOSA wont take action if they see them

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm

gives you a list of the lighting requirments

there is a lot of grey areas within the MOT

Thats kinda where i was coming from really. I doubt youd be covered in an accident either if you were reversing off the drive but the car coming along thought you were braking.

Used some spay tint, lots of thin layers on the reverse light bit, until I was happy, the red is standard.

The front headlights and fogs are Laminx not the darkest and not the lightest from what I recall.

Since changed for Lamin-xed Lexus Style Lights but will be changing back !! :giggle:

Karl

i used savage tail light tint spray on mine. little tip if you are going to use laquer on top to make it shine make sure you spray some tint on a piece of paper then the laquer on top to make sure it doesnt react before you apply it to your car

Never mind the reverse lights!!!

The indicators will be flashing red to!!

The indicators still have a tinge of orange, but yes they are a little red... although I did indicate whilst infront of a police car at a set of lights the other day and he never even batted an eye.

You don't need laquer to make them shine, lacquer will just mean its really hard to remove if/when you want to. You see a lot of cars that have tinted with spray and teh lights look dull and matte, heres how to make 'em shine without the use of lacquer:

1. Remove the light clusters and take them indoors.

2. Thoroughly clean with soap then wipe with methanol/methylated spiriit

3. Heat the clusters with heat gun/hair dryer

4. Spray on tint in thin even coats; go in traverse straight lines, doing all the light in one burst to avoid fish eyes.

5. when dry, rub dowm with tcut scratch remover

6. use a hard wax to buff to shine

Is the one on the right the darkest Lamin-x?
