Superceded gearbox oil for vRS

Featured Replies

Hello all....

I am about to replace a leaking gearbox oil seal at the driveshaft but I am waiting on 2lr of gearbox oil to come in at Skoda. I have been told by them that the GO60 726 A2 oil has been superceded which is why they are having trouble getting it in?? Is this the case, has anyone else had this new oil? Plus it is more expensive at £20 + the VAT?

Cheers

strange that i'm looking now and theres 702 1ltr bottles in stock at the uk warehouse i think someones taking you for a ride

Is there a TPS near you? Google Trade Part Specialists

Well they sent the old spec stuff, so I assume that it was ordered by mistake and that's why I haven't got it yet??

What getys me though is that it is not a stock item?? They service Skodas there so surely they would always have some gearbox oil in for top ups and full gearbox oil replacement???

You would think so yes. However, when I first bought my Octy, I rang the local dealers and asked for some G060 and they had no idea what I was on about. They tried to sell me some 75/90 instead. So I rang up the local VW dealers and ordered it from there.

we always stock a couple of litres

Right just been in to pick up my oil....they had only order 1ltr....!!! and it is £25 with the VAT for each litre!?! No way am I paying £50 for 2ltrs of oil! I asked if they could get the G060 and they said, not possible! How bizarre...

Yeah I thought this might be the case...they were very generous though and offered me a whole 10% of the new spec oil! Wow, I couldn't get the credit card out fast enough...NOT!

Call TPS

I used the std stuff mid year,

The stuff before that looked like it had never been changed and it was on 73k when I serviced it and had been done at Skoda stealers every time before then. I honistly think that even dealers are crap and only do what you can see. I dont trust any garage anymore.

I am also worried that the std oil actually eats away at something in the box? as the pic shows that is new v 6-7month old stuff and 10k miles. now I am having trouble with the box and she has never been ragged. wierd

just go to a vw dealer mate its £5.81 inc vat full retail price, i work for the tps centre in sheffield

Well I have been to VW and guess what! They can get the gearoil in for me! When it comes in I am going to take it over to Skoda (ironically it is the next garage along the road!) to show them it IS still obtainable and also so they know where to get it from if someone like me goes in to Skoda next time...

Cheers all!

Gearbox oil isn't a service item, is it? I'm just about to be charged £166 for a minor 10k service at my local main dealer, which I'm not happy about. £20 in fluids and parts, and apparently another £146 to do a checklist to discover what they can offer to charge me for next. It'll be interesting to see if they miss any of the checklist items that I already know need to be fixed.

What really narked me was that I asked the guy at the counter if, when they ran their diagnostic on it, they could tell me if a particular code had been logged. No, he said, they don't go into it that far.

Its easy DIY stuff a basic service, why not do it yourself?

Because it has a full dealer service record to date, and this is probably going to be the last service before I get rid of it - I'd rather sell it with a consistent and checkable FSH. It's been the single least reliable car I've ever had and even though the glitches are now more or less sorted and I'm putting the last bits right now, I've lost confidence in it and the way the VAG chain deal with (or ignore) well known problems.

As far as Im aware the gearboxx oil is a service item, ill look in the book.

I was goint to do that and get mine a FSSH but after seeing how **** most dealers are, I would rather do it myself and once a year my car gets pritty much a full service and all the suspension stripped and cleaned and other stuff too.

dealers only look at it.

I think the final straw was when I spoke to a parts bloke who told me that nothing really ever goes wrong with Octavias, and the Skoda chain are wary of sites like Briskoda (yup, namechecked) because they make people think that their cars aren't reliable. The logic seemed to be that most of the major parts that we know go wrong are rarely sold from their parts department.. which is presumably nothing to do with the prices!

good old parts blokes :giggle:

And may we ask what your replacement will be?

Not decided yet, although money is a problem what with all the cuts and job uncertainty. Probably going back to japanese - quite fancy the Mazda6 MPS as a bit of a sleeper.

What guts me is that I love the Octy. There's nothing out there that can do everything it can for the money, and if this one had behaved I'd be happy to own it until it fell to pieces. Once you lose confidence though it's hard to get it back, and the huge list of known issues across all cars sharing the same platform doesn't fill me with hope for an alternative. I've been let down in serious situations before and those cars have always gone at the earliest opportunity.
