Superceded gearbox oil for vRS

Well I have my G060 gearoil from VW...hurrah! I asked the VW bloke about whether it has been superceeded and he said it was still listed as the G060 for my gearbox....So I went over to Skoda (next door!) and told them that VW have sold me the G060 and that Skodas records must be wrong. She said that they share the same system!!! and that the G060 is not listed to be sold for that gearbox and they cannot get hold of it for customers! Bizarre I tell you....oh well just need to work out now how to pour the oil into the gearbox from those oversized tube with no handy pull out pourer on them!!

still cant believe they said that, just put the reg in for my vrs and it comes up with that gearbox oil. think they're trying to save face!

does the elegance 1.8t & vrs have the same gearbox?

and how often/at what mileage should the gearbox oil be changed?

Glad you got it eventually, you might have to go to Halfords & buy the cheapest box oil with one of those pull out tubes, ditch the oil , just to use the bottle :-(

  • 7 months later...

an anyone confirm the 1.8t Elegance, gearbox code EVS of 2002 vintage also takes G0 60 726 A2?

And what's the score with the drain plug, will I need to buy a unique tool (to **** me off), or does it need something normally kept in the average tool collection?

it'll use the same stuff - you'll need 2 litres to do a change

drain just needs 17mm hex to undo - not a specialised tool although likely you won't have it

nice one thanks, and you're right....I don't have a 17mm hex....(I do have a Fiat Punto 12mm one however, but no Fiat Punto)

Halfords do the 17mm hex.

I just welded and nut & bolt together

Check you can get the filled plug out before draining the box though.
