LED tail lights

Featured Replies

regarding what superskoda is like, it might be worth having a search on here for superskoda, and see what you think before you order.

These lights and others are currently being discussed in another live thread...

Yes, the LED tail light clusters on Superskoda are genuine OEM Skoda and are currently fitted to a Chinese varient of the Octavia.

They are plug and play so there should be no problems with any bulb warning errors.

The only problem is they are not e-marked which means they are not road legal here in the UK.

Will anyone ever find out? Will your MOT tester check? Would your insurance company ever check in the event of a claim? I doubt it.

The other problem is that they are available for the hatch only, not the estate.

Not having a dig, but if you type in "superskoda" into the search on this site you get thousands of posts come back, mostly returning posts that have hyperlinks to the superskoda site relating to something they have for sale, not necessarily explaining why they aren't good to deal with. The only thing I've found so far is that their postage is expensive. Anything else?

Thanks,

You are leaving yourself wide open to getting prosecuted under Construction & Use regs.

I'd say prosecution was a bit unlikely!

Some temporary stick-on reflectors will do for the MOT to be removed afterwards.

Being issued a 'producer' by a very observant, Skoda enthusiast, Briskoda reading copper I think is all you'll have to worry about

I'm not saying it is likely.

I didn't say you did. I just said it would be unlikely.

The other issue is that, like any modification, the insurance would need to be informed. They wouldn't take very kindly if someone ran into the back of the car whilst parked up at night if they knew that you had deliberately removed the (legally required) reflectors.

I'll take my chances

The car would fail with no reflector on the back. BUT if it's like the bike mot it doesn't matter what size it is! My bike reflector is a thin strip of reflective tape!!! :giggle:

How imaginitive

Yep, I'd say slightly more imaginitive than :dull::dull::dull::dull:

No.......just an overstretching of the solitary brain cell :p

OK, enough of the tit-for-tat squabbling.

Seems the Superb benefits from LED rears in China too.

Let's hope Skoda decide to bring them to the UK

There is no way Skoda will introduce LED rear lights for the current Octavia. If they were ever going to they would have done it at FL. Vehicle lighting accounts for something like a third (or it might be two thirds, I can't remember) of all EU manufacturing legislation, so naturally it costs a bomb. They'd never do it for no reason in the last years of a car's model cycle, which the current Octy is in.

The design is complete.

Supply chain is established.

The manufacturing process is currently up and running.

Whilst I agree it makes no sense to randomly introduce LED lights in-between facelift's / new model introductions I don't think its got anything to do with legislation.

The cost to submit the design to an independent approval body such as Kema or TUV to obtain the e-mark approval under the Automotive EMC Directive (95/54/EC) is relatively inexpensive.

To me it's more political in terms of maintaining differentiation between the VAG brands.

Interesting to see top spec Golf's now have them (as well as the Phaeton, Passat, Jetta and Golf Plus) in addition to the high end Audi's.

I guess the Seat Leon down the bottom of the food chain was just lucky!

No reason for Skoda to miss out, although the vRS does benefit from LED DRL's with the Fabia and FL Scout.

Looks like if we want them we'll have to take a risk and buy them ourselves, at least until the next Octavia arrives!
