Lots of various

If you are changing both then most folks go 23mm front and 25mm rear or 25mm front and 28mm rear

Not seen much members doing 25mm front and rear but I am sure someone will answer that. I think people tend to have the RARB larger at the rear.

my plan was R32 23mm front and 28mm rear.

is this really worth doing as most vrs will nevery see a track as iv not really had any worrys on the road with standerd size roll bars ?

the vrs doesn't have a RARB. hence why everyone fits one, and yes the difference in handling is noticeable straight away

probably one of the best handling mods you can do

Forget bolting on an ugly extra ARB to the rear beam, stiffen it properly!

I expect I'll get abused for saying that, so I better back up what I mean now! The rear beams already have ARB's fitted to them (inside the V-profile), and some of the OE beams have different thickness bars based on application. I've also seen some reinforcement pieces made by VW, that are welded to the beam for race/rally use of any of their A4 platform cars.

Here's what I mean: http://www.bildon.com/catalog/DetailsList.cfm?ID=1CV.501.513.514

On the Octavia/Leon/Toledo/Golf/Bora/A3 there are beams available with 18mm or 21.7mm integrated ARB's. On the Beetle there was only ever an 18mm bar used, and on the TT there was only ever the 21.7mm bar fitted.

The standard 18mm beam is 1J0500051L, and the "sport" beam is 1J0500051J by the looks of things (VAGCAT). So I'm assuming the vRS has the stiffer "sport" beam already fitted. Need to confirm though.

Obviously fitting an aftermarket ARB will be easier though, and probably cheaper, so what I've said is probably pointless! I just got all excited when I found those VW reinforcement plates!

I suppose the proper job would be to source a second hand 21.7mm beam, get the reinforcement welded on, powdercoat the beam, re-bush the beam and swap in. Who's going to try it then?!

the vrs doesn't have a RARB.

Yes it does! It's just well hidden, and forgotten about:

That's shut me up :giggle:

Ah my appologies for being a numpty I'd forgotten about it running through the beam.

Oright Steve, how's it going? Yeah I emailed VW Racing UK ( http://www.volkswagenracing.co.uk/ ) earlier too asking about these, as they are apparently who made them. I think they might have been discontinued now, but I'll soon find out I guess.

When/if I get a response I'll post it up here.

lol i'll stick to anti roll bars i ordered 25mm fr and rear is that right or wrong?

I suppect when the price is known for the VW Racing UK items we will be going straight back to the RARB theory as I can imagine those being dear if even actually able to get hold of.

But great find there.

Im sure if you ring dpm they will be able to help

Interesting that on ukmivs they concluded the 25mm front and back was the best setup

I think it may be to do with the golf being lighter on the back than an octy. Springs from a golf are not interchangeable due to different ratings due the weight difference of an octy and a golf, so perhaps a thicker bar is needed at the back for the same reason??

ever car on here seems to use a smaller front than a rear one i want the car to over steer a tad and not be too harsh as using daily , i have the 20mm h and r springs for a budget daily with some comfort , sticking to the stock 17's and tyre size too as want it to be a sleeper i guess, should it handle ok?

I would suggest getting a 4 wheel laser alignment check done once you've got the parts on too. You can spend thousands on Octavia suspension parts but if the suspension alignment is out then your not going to see the full benefit.

Mine uses 25mm / 22mm F/R but rear is a different setup on a 4x4 .

Sleepers are more fun too :giggle:
