New model year and new gear boxes

Featured Replies

Believe that the Monster is in line for some new gear boxes for the 2012 model year in May. Also the 1.4TSI appears to be getting an additional manual gearbox type in November but it's not clear if this replaces the change in May.

Oh also came across an additional type of TDI CR 140 thats been fitted since MY11; engine code CLCB

Anybody got one of these :wonder:

Hi Mike,

regard the engine code either on the build sticker (service book & boot floor) or the data panel on the drivers door pillar. Believe though this CLCB engine has only been mounted to manual gearbox models.

In the example above top right CBDB is the engine code (TDI CR 140; production start to November 09).

Hi Mike,

thanks you have the CFHC engine which replaced the CBDB version from WK45/09 and can be mounted to either manual or DSG gearboxes

not quite to the topic but:

skoda differentiates 2.0 tdi cr engines in question as 1. generation for model year 2009(?)

and as 2. generation (sometime later in 2009 as 2010 models)

however what's interesting and even strange for me is the fact that the main change between the generations is switching from piezo to electromagnetic injectors

because piezo injectors are bosch common rail 3rd generation technology and electromagnetic injectors are older 2nd generation so it seems like a step back!

also earlier versions of 125kw 2.0tdi cr (cbbb) had counter-balancing shafts which were apparently eliminated later on

so it seems to me that the best engine would be an early (cbbb) version.

if anyone has some credible info regarding this topic i would appreciate it.

Honest John in the Telegraph Motoring Section, has stated more than once that piezo injectors are renowned for their rate of failure, so he rarely recommened any VAG CR diesel engines. Maybe this is an acknowledgemnt by Skoda that a more reliable injector is required - though I'm not aware of problems on CR Yetis.

(Honest John did rate the Yeti 1.8TSi very highly indeed - it was one of his most recommended cars until supply became an issue.
